started it, but these tries by sellers adding them to vintage or low end machines is a fail inmho.

Right next to the sink, very convenient. I don't like or advocate mutilation of vintage appliances but I see no harm in doing this to most of the crap sold nowadays.

Definitely convenient being next to the sink. I have a magnetic towel holder on the sides of my metal cabinets, but I'd be hesitant to use one on a vintage appliance in case it would cause any type of damage.
