Hello everyone,
I've been a fan of this board for years but have always just read and learned vs posting.. not having anything to really contribute to the discussion. I finally joined recently.. but still have nothing to contribute.. haha. So for my first post I thought I'd pose a question to the experts that's been on my mind for years. I found the attached images maybe 7 years ago online for a 50's/60's image project I was creating. The 2 images were on Flickr and were just these two "artistic" shots of the control panel, there were also a few closeups of some of the printed button lenses, and included a very basic description by the poster only saying it was found in an estate sale basement. This console has always been a favorite and wanted to find out more about the appliance it was attached to. The chrome detailing is pretty standard on these awesome older machines and that attracts me, but also all those colors in the buttons are so interesting since most washer/dryer consoles seem more toned down with just whites and wood tones. This just looks very Bewitched 1960's to me, though it's probably a 50's model Always wanted to find out more about the machine and see the whole thing in pictures that are shot in a more normal format instead of someone's "artistic interpretation" or vision or whatever they were going for. Does it look familiar to anyone? I know that it's a Kenmore dryer but that's pretty much it. Would be cool to figure out the model number to look up photos. Thanks for reading. |

I have a 1960, extremely similar including the multi-colored console. John is right, 1959 or 60, may 61?
The trouble with Kenmore-----so many different models that changed every year, slight changes to the console and controls, sometimes it's hard to find more pictures of one exact model from one exact year. |

John- Thank you for the welcome and the tip on what years to look for, now I have something to go by! I hope to one day get a pair of machines of my own so I may just take you up on that offer in the future.
Akronman- What a line of beauties there! and the one IS a twin almost. After seeing yours That makes sense about the subtle changes making ID'ing hard. I had wondered if the dryer was somehow in the family of a Lady Kenmore because the colored buttons reminded me of the colored switch controls on the late 50's LK's. I don't think I've ever seen a machine the color of the middle one.. that's just awesome. |

Thanks also, I was calling them buttons I think because I didn't have a better word haha. But that makes sense. The funny thing is I had originally wondered if they were lenses that lit up when you set the dial to the corresponding setting. So many of these great old machines had those kinds of lighting gimmicks built in that didn't really serve a purpose but made the thing just look so darn cool. But I see now from the newer pictures that isn't the case at all, but doesn't really need them lighted, it's a beauty as is. |

That is definitely a 1960 dryer. The 1960 line had those squared-off corners and slight extensions out from the ends on the console. Our next door neighbor (when I was a kid) had the matching washer. Model 70 maybe?
I grew up with a 1960 Model 80, which had pushbutton cycle selectors with a rapid-advance timer. |

This Kenmore looks to be a very late 50s or early 60s model. P.S. does it work? |

Thanks Charles
Actually the pictures I included in the post were just images I found online several years ago that someone else took of this dryer, I don't own the actual machine. I posted the pics just looking for more information to research the model better and find out what the complete dryer looked like.. and maybe someday find the real thing. |
