Found curbside at the crusher! A mid 60's Frigidaire dryer in pretty good shape, needs a heating element. The model number appears to be DIAK, but it's difficult to read due to a mar across the data sticker. Serial number is 86SA 9734. I need help finding a re-string kit for element. The coils of current Frigidaire models are too large to fit through the ceramic insulators. Also, what year model would this dryer be, and how do you dis-assemble the cabinet to get inside for a good cleaning? Any advice, info, etc would be appreciated. I'll try to get some pics posted later.

Hi Sam,

Congrats on your find. Your new Frigidaire Imperial dryer is a 1966 model. The 5400 watt heating element is Frigidaire number 5307525459 and was also used on some dryers from 1964 & 1965.

UPDATE: Found the element I needed and am now happily drying! One issue, though. The first load I dried on Automatic cycle, all went well through most of the cycle, then the timer stopped advancing and hasn't advanced on Automatic cycle since. Works like a charm on the timed cycle. If I'm correct, the way auto cycle works is that the timer motor has no power to it until the drum heats up, the thermostat opens, then the timer motor is energized until the thermostat closes again. This thermostat is working, I can watch the heater cycle on and off from the back of the dryer. Any advice?
Also, how do you get to the innards of these machines to clean them or to replace the belt? The front seems to be permanently attached???
