Whatever happened to Bendix? Why did they stop making laundry machines? When did they exit the market? Whatever happened to the other storied brands of yore? Gobbled up by competitors? Pursuing other interests? I'm fascinated by the history of this stuff.

A lot of the brands out had also opened factories up overseas.Mostly in Europe. Some of them did nothing but sell their brand name to other manufacturers there. Those who had factories there had set them up pretty much independant of the original American companies. You'll notice that back in the 70"s,Westinghouse Electric Company sold their Major Appliance division to White Consolidated Industries (WCI)but,if you go to Australia and shop for a washer/dryer,range frig,or dishwasher, the Westinghouse name as well as logo are proudly placed on their models.Yes,"You can be sure if it's Westinghouse."there.Other brands ,Bendix(now known in Europe as Tricity-Bendix),Philco,Thor,Kelvinator,and Hoover may not be seen or heard of here in the U.S but (excluding Hoover and Tricity Bendix)these names are popular in Europe and owned by Electrolux of Sweeden. The proud?owners of brands i.e.White Westinghouse, kelvinator,Gibson,Frigidaire,Tappan,Gaffers and sattler and Philco.

In Europe, Candy owns Hoover and Kelvinator. Electrolux of Sweden owns Tricity-Bendix, Zanussi and AEG.

Occasionally, in the UK, an independent electrical shop might have a "Bendix" on sale. This is without the "Tricity" part of the name. Usually exclusive to those shops; a very basic machine.
