...at mom's office. I'd start it with a ton of palmolive dish soap and then watch everyone freak out!

I worked in a big fancy office in a skyscraper. Last one out was to start the dishwasher on their floor. I found it quite funny that our elite and super-intelligent [the lawyers, (read: book-smart, only)] were so proud of their long hours. Yet it was they that constantly flooded the machine with hand-dishwashing liquid detergent. The machines on-site were TOL GEs, electronically-controlled in the mid 80's |

My dad did the liquid-handsoap trick once with the dishwasher...I remember being about six or so, and wondering why the dishwasher was making odd noises. Then, I saw the sheet o' suds coming out over the kick panel. For years, I thought that my dad was demonstrating a distinct lack of housekeeping know-how, until I later realized the brilliance of it all--my mother wouldn't let him touch the dishwasher for years... ...which was probably exactly what he was hoping for :-) |

Age 7. I really wanted to get the dishes clean so I put everything I could find under the sink in the dishwasher. It was a late 50's GE pull out drawer model. It had a half moon dial on the front of it. The suds came out the top flowing down the entire front of the dishwasher, down the galley style kitchen, into the laundry room, down 2 steps into the garage. My Mom was really cool about it. She just said ah,you put too much soap in it and let the thing run.... She figured if I watched what it did it would make sense to me. I only use the proper amount of Cascade now.
