Never could figure out WHY they didn't have the lights on in that ad. Pearly Mae could have been all lit up!

Those were one of the only Westinghouse sets I ever wanted. Mostly because of the jazzy GE-ripoff backsplashes and the dispensers on the top of the cabinet. Pity they were so badly made back then. I remember dealers telling us not to buy them.

I always liked this set of westies too, are they just too old school for todays market? More than a drop of water, splashing around, IIRC they had a concrete block in them for stabilization. No stop tumble, distribution. Wonder who has the patent rights to them now, electrolux? I have always had a weakness for them, grew up with stacked spacemates. I guess as trouble prone as they were, they had a loyal following for years, either a westy or a rebadged MW Signature. alr2903

I owned a WCI frontloading pair, branded as Frigidaire for about a 1-1/2 years, circa 1987. The only model Frigidaire offered was the rear-control model with dispensers on top. It still had solenoids; made quite a 'bang' every time it went into a spin.

I don't think it reverse-tumbled, either, but I can't be sure. Frigidaire only sold them for one or two seasons. I had a KitchenAid TL'er for a year or two after that, then a Gibson stacking FL'er---the last of the WCI's with a dark speckled tub and tub light. It didn't use solenoids for the spin, but I don't recall it reverse-tumbling, either. It was during this period that I found a great old 1-18 and the '59 LK pair, which I SO wish I had back. Kick, kick.

In '96 came the first edition Frigidaire/Electrolux FL pair.

That is one of my very favorite pictures of the day as well. I always wanted that set so bad. In 1970 my college roommates parents got that set in harvest gold and I was hooked!!!! You should have seen them with their consoles a lite up, breath-taking!!!!
