Between this Speed Queen dryer - or the remains of a lawn tractor (both somewhat green), which would you choose? Please note - you much choose quickly as you have passing traffic on the highway behind you and also spectators at the neighboring Casey's gas station are watching to see what your next move is.

I'll leave this open for discussion.

Ben

Well, the dryer is in better looking shape than the tractor, and its a 'Queen with a pedal! I'd be all about that dryer!

Re: I would take:

Door #1, with the Speed Queen Dryer behind it. As mentioned the Tractor's are a Dime-A-Dozen and this Speed Queen Dryer also does have the Foot Door Opener. I don't ever remember seeing before on the Speed Queen Dryers. Good Luck, let us all know which you decided on, or maybe you had a large enough Hauling Vehicle to get both and actually needed and wanted both...

Peace and Great Laundry Drying times with a Speed Queen Dryer, Steve

OOOOOH!

GET THAT DRYER!!! Those are great dryers. We used to have that exact model, in green too. Very TOL dryer with a foot opener, stainless drum, and a lighted console. The dryer we had is still in the family as my brother has it. The only thing it ever needed was new berings in 1999. Really I can't tell you enough what a great dryer that is.

Hope you get it!
Liam

If you keep that dryer on the grass, does that mean the tractors is going into the laundry room?

What ARE you thinking?

toggleswitch's profile picture
It's fun to put some power between your legs, but it's way harder to straddle and ride that dryer........but infinitely more fun to have, IMHO!

That tractor-mower ain't gonna fit in no 27" to 29" wide space. The washer wants no part of it, either.

Can't get both? The dryer you could load by yourself, the tractor would take at least 2 people. But the tractor could be parted out on EBay for more than the dryer. Decisions, decisions.....

Something about this machine just screams rugged. Not sure if it is the faux wood paneling, the Stainless Steel drum, or the raised lettering in the panel. But the foot pedal is totally cool!

The Maytag pulls out all known tricks of intimidation. The Speed Queen isn't fooled by flashy, auto-start lights!

For those who have always wondered (as have I) if the Speed Queen door is the same size as a Maytag - now you have proof. They aren't.

There was a matching washer control panel out there in AW.org land. If so - drop me a line!

Not usually one to go ga-ga over a dryer - but for some reason, this Speed Queen has inspired me enough to wire up 220v for a dryer. We shall have lights tomorrow evening! It really is a pretty (manly) dryer.

Very nice - what is the model number? It looks to be about 1975-76 or so. This would be a reversing-motor washer, the TOL model had a 24 hr. soak timer and metered fill. I had the matching washer to your dryer 5 years ago. I found a lot of the washers around that time, but rarely dryers.

Congrats on a beautiful piece of steel!

The scans are great - didn't know there was a drum light in the dryer. I'll be hunting for it when time permits. Wonderful set - hopefully a matching washer is still out there. I agree too - anytime a washer tells you via a light that it is rinsing is a must have feature. How else would you know?

The dryer (model FE9021) appears to be in amazing shape. It came out of an old motel in a small town south of Waterloo - so it was never in a basement. Practically rust free except for a few scrapes on the base. I've gone back to inquire about a matching washer but no one seems to be managing the joint. Guess that is why you will find a "Under New Management" sign in the door window.

Here is a shot after getting it hooked up to some 220v. Everything works great, although there is a scraping noise that either sounds like a roller going back or something is stuck somewhere and dragging. I'll try to dig into it soon so I can do laundry at the house!

Ben

Speed Queen Heaven!

Hey Ben,

We had a harvest gold washer exactly like the one you have in avocado! Loved the overflow rinse and the high quality porcelain cabinet. It definitely had quality, and weighed a ton! When the spin brake went out on the washer, we traded it in on a SQ HA700lL (1983). We still have that washer and it works - although I'm noticing the tub is indexing about four inches counterclockwise during the wash cycle. I think it's time to get a brake job done on it!

I've never seen a SQ dryer with a foot control to open the door ! Now that's TOL! That stainless steel drum looks like it came right off the showroom floor! Good for you for finding (and saving) this treasure!

Mike

Hi,

I'm glad you got the beautiful SQ dryer. As I said before we use to have the same model. The scraping noise could be bad bearings. We had both the fan and drum bearings replaced on ours back in 1999 and it's been going strong ever since. I remember at the time the repair man telling my Mum to never get rid of that dryer as it's head and shoulders better then anything built today.

Good luck with it.
Liam

"If I had to choose"? Ok, the cool ass dryer! But in fairness you did not post this to the Classic Rider Lanwnmower site either to ask thier opinion, either. (if there is one)

I was having dinner with my boyfriend Harry, and he said to me "Phil,if you could learn to cook like this, we could fire the chef! I said "Harry, if you could learn to fuck, we could fire the gardner."

That Speed Queen dryer looks exactly like an old GM Frigdaire dryer that I have on the inside(shape of door, shape of drum, door seal, lint filter, door liner). Am I wrong or did one manufacture the other?
