I recently posted a question concerning the horsepower rating of the New Kitchenaid(and I guess KenWhirl units too)Sidewinder pumps on the Kitchenaid conversations forum. Angel responded that the horsepower rating for the pump is 1/5(yes..one fifth) horsepower and the drain pump consumes 40 wats when running.
Is it any wonder that customers are not always getting the results they would have come to expect from any of those units?
WOW!! what a letdown!

Funny how I remember before Whirlpool bought Kitchenaid from Hobart that they used to make a big issue with Kitchenaid's Gold Seal 1/2 hp motor and how that heft would struggle less with water. They used to compare motors from brand to brand and they always said that GE's 1/5 hp motor was small...yet that motor could send up a storm of water thru the wash system. Now KitchenAid is so not like its former self and yet people buy their machines based on the reliablity of the previous designs. My sister-in-law has one and so far its needed 3 repairs in 3 years. I told her if it dies and it will be soon to look at a Miele or Bosch.
My DishDrawer's pump motor (one pump/motor per drawer, reverses for recirculate or drain) is rated 60 watts. I suppose that makes it a toy, LOL, but it generates enough spray pressure to easily flip plastic cups and bowls.
