Hey guys,
I've always had an interest in the zanussi iz since it's curved fascia stepped out onto the high street a few years ago, i even passed up the opportunity to have one in favor of a wma62 in 2000, what was i thinking? I know one of our members here has one of these and was wondering if anyone has had any encounters or experiences with one?

I'm wondering how the balancing is etc, I've been eyeing up the electrolux insight machines, which aren't too dissimilar from the iz or a mid-top end zanussi. Reason being i'm gettin bored of the hotpoint and i'm considering replacing it when i have some extra cash. Though first there are things we need in the house. f/freezer, flooring etc.

Any input pics/vids would be great appreciated!

I know our own david 2drumsallergy has had one of the insights and i would love to hear abit about the brief experience he had with his insight!

Happy easter chaps!

Darren

Is your IZ machine made in Germany or Italy? This machine is very similar to the AEG Lavamat 72640 that I have, I think. I find that my AEG is not very good at balancing the load despite the load the machine spins! I once had a dressing gown in the machine and the machine was not balanced and the machine went into spin and the drum hit the glass door and marked it with a gash. This glass was replaced but this again happened 5 years later.

IZ= Made in Italy

AEG03: Funny you should say that about your AEG, the same thing happened to my AEG 1600rpm from 1998. I was washing a pillow along with a few other items. When the final spin was reached, the machine gave a huge leap and the inner drum actually made contact with the door glass, and scored it. The machines bearings went in 2001, so I wonder if this was the cause. I always found that the machine never seemed to balance the load properly. Sometimes the spinning was quite stable, other times it rattled and roared.

Anyway, that machine was succeeded by the Zanussi IZ 16s in 2001, which seems to be a far better machine in terms of spin control. I think the tilted drum has something to do with it, as well as it doing a better balancing act before the serious spinning.

Rolls_rapide. That's reassuring to hear that someone else has experienced this. I lways thought that the gap between the drum glass and drum was not big enough, I suppose this may be the same distance in machines from other manufacturers but I'm sure they have better spin balancing controls.

I tested my AEG ther other day with a pillow case stuffed with towels and tied up, the towels inside where wet so a big heaby weight item in the drum, the machine attemped for a few mins to balance the load and to my horror, the machine started to spin, I quickly stopped it but it has already gashed the glass door again.

I cannot believe an AEG which is supposed to be of high quality doing this, also have u seen my pic of the suspension leg, it is of inferior quality.

Good to hear the IZ is better, I was curious as the parts in AEG and Zanussi are near identical so wondered if the control module was the same programming. If so the AEG does not have FUZZY LOGIC as the brochure claimed.

AEG03,

the same thing also happened to my 3 year old AEG washer after the repairman had left.

Lavamat78800 that is appauling for a mchine that is supposed to be a 'premium' product. I will post a pic of my machine glass gash.

Isn't it funny when we mentioned a problem others post their problem, I guess its a common problem on AEG's just many people probably don't even notice the glass door being marked up.

I must admit that when the door-glass scoring incident happened on my machine, I nearly had kittens!

I never liked the way the AEG balanced a load and span/spun (what is the correct term?). It never seemed to be consistent when balancing. And it had a ridiculous stage before the final fast stage, whereby it fell back to distribute speed, but did not even try reverse tumbling.

Mum's Bosch 'Exxcel' has a similar spin profile to the old AEG, and again the rattles and roars are unbelievable. I wouldn't give it house-room. She had to bolt it to the floor, using Bosch's special brackets!

The IZ, after the final rinse pumps out, does a very short, half-hearted spin then stops and redistributes back & forth several times, before going into the slow spins that lead to faster ones. Very stable indeed. In fact, one of the most stable machines I have ever seen.

My grandfather had a Zanussi Jetsystem from 1999 (1250 rpm, standard horizontal tub), and that wanted to dance around the room. When mum was looking for a new machine in 2000, she discounted the Zanussis due to that fact. At that time, she went for a Hoover.

Here is a pic of my AEG door gash. Its not as big as yours. This is caused by a recent out of balance load.

The previous glass that was on the machine had a bigger gash and if I remember correctly 2 of them but this was changed by AEG 5 years ago.
