Check out the agitator - do my eyes deceive me or is there a chunk broken out of it on the left near the fin at the 8 or 9 o'clock position? I've never seen a roto-swirl like this in an automatic (with the channels all the way up). Catalogs from the time have replacement agitators in different heights, could that be why? I'm curious if anyone knows.... Gordon |

But maybe it's worn smooth, so as not to snag clothing. The Rotos in the 62/4 Lady K auto, and the Lady K conventional are not interchangeable. I've tried. The auto is taller, but I'm wondering is the taller auto roto the same size as the older so-called pregnant roto. How do you see the pix of his SQ that he refers to? |

When looking at the auction of the Kenmore click view sellers other items, and scroll down, and you will find the the SQ. Damn, I wish he was closer to me, I would take one or maybe both. Jim |

To check out the speed queen, click on the right side of the ebay screen the line that says "view seller's other auctions" or something like that. It will give you a list, and you'll be able to find it. That list wasn't long. The SQ has a white plastic agitator, so it looks pretty recent, relatively speaking. The "Pregnant" roto from the early automatics and the Super Roto that took over in 1963 in the autos are interchangeable, at least in my experience. One can swap a straight vane (Sears called them 6-vane back then), a standard (Pregnant) or a super Roto-Swirl back and fourth in the standard 24 and 29-inch machines. In fact, when the black bakelite drive-block super roto was still available as a replacement from Whirlpool (not all that long ago), it was substituted for models that originally came with the pregnant version, meaning if you had a 1962 Lady that shipped from the factory with the preggo and you wanted to order a new agitator, you'd get the super from WP and it would fit just fine. It's MOL, the TOL had two handles for the drain operations. If you look at the 3rd pic in L's link you'll see a valve on the drain faucet which would hold the water in the spinner, since that model only has a handle for the wash drain. The machine is in beautiful shape for its age, the best preserved example I've seen. The later model refined the drain handles by eliminating them. Aunt Marge's evolved model had what looked like a miniature light dimer switch--very pretty, and located just under the time. It drained the wash tub. The spinner's main arm took on a double function. 12- o'clock, (the drain is) CLOSED, 2- o'clock, OPEN, 3-o'clock SPIN, all clearly marked. Thus, no more dull metal handles, just slender wash & spin arms. How I loved that washer. If someone wants this, I could probably pick it up for you and hold it in my garage. And I promise not to play with it till you get here :-) Not quite sure where Delavan is. Anything after North Collins we call East Jesus or East Jahunguh, but it can't be that far. |

I hope it's Geoff or Eddy, or whomever, but they both love the SQ. With the SS tub, it's a keeper. With the bidding ending just before the Canton OH weekend, and with Cleveland 40 minutes away, someone in the club might be able to pick it up for a member, on the way home from Canton. The conventionals are so much lighter than their automatic offspring. No concrete, no outer tub, and the wringer comes off, making for a pretty easy lift-off.
