Hi Guys,

Well, the Hoover 565 finally made it back to my folks place last week. Not too bad for a AU$26.00 purchase from Ebay!! (transport of course cost a lot more)This machine is based on a US Blackstone design.

This model is one down from the TOL 585. It has a Heater and automatic rinse conditioner dispenser (which i forgot to get a pic of)

Does it work? Yes....but haven't had a chance to put it through a full cycle yet.

Enjoy!
Cheers
Leon

Right side control panel.
The suds save function works differently: the machine spins for 1 1/4 minutes to prime the pump and when it stops the suds are siphoned back into the machine without the agitator working...unlike many other suds save machines.

Beauty shot...interior. This machine would have originally come with a proper chrome cap, but these caps proved too heavy and would eventually loosen all the time, causing wear on the agiator...hence why most 500 series machines now have a later beige plastic cap.

So nice! I am glad that one of these has been saved for posterity.

I must say, it is funny how these machines outsold everyone else in the day, but that you have found so many of all the other brands. I wonder if there are any 585's out there? That must be a holy grail!

I love the Hoover badge on the front of the machine and how it includes the model number as well. Nice touch that is missing from todays machines.

Hey Ash,

Do you want to hear a funny story? I was looking through a 1974 Women's Weekly and noticed the "House of the Week". The owners...who built the home in Brisbane, showed the laundry and guess what was in there? A TOL Hoover 585!!

They named the owners of the house and i thought: "what if they are still there?"....so i checked the white pages and they are still listed and they would be close to 80 yrs old.

I sent them a photocopy of the article and a letter and i got a call from the owner 2 days later, but UNfortunately, they got rid of the 585 10 years ago!!

Never mind, but at least he rang me as you never know what people have lurking in their garages etc.

Cheers
Leon

Leon, is this the same model as the one that's in the POD with the MOD lady who is Boss or is this the model down below that one, which would then be the TOL? Congratulations. I finally get to see wht all those buttons say as well as the dial.

Is this the same model in POD??

Hey Bob,

Yes, this is the same model that Robert puts up in POD.

The TOL 585 is a Fully programmed all push button model with rapid advance timer and automatic rinse and bleach dispensers that sit atop the control panel. The 585 still has the same control markings as the 565, but the indicator is "built in" (as best as i can put it)

I'll post a pic if i can find a decent one.

Cheers
Leon

I've never seen 1 like this in the US. I guess they just made it for Australia?

"I've never seen 1 like this in the US. I guess they just made it for Australia?"

This is an evolution of the Blackstone Hoover made in the US. This was made in Australia from 1969 to the mid 80's but the design changed a little as it went from 500 series to eventually the 800 series. The 900 series was completely redesigned.

Leon At least you tried so good on you whether you find a 585 or not. Out of interest was there a 685? I know that there was a 665.

I like it's bright graphics and clear controls, makes one happier to do the laundry and there is a definite co relation between how one looks and how one feels.

Brillant!

Hello leon that is a very nice machine wish we had it in the states, that control panel is beautiful it really makes you want to wash pretty BLUE & WHITE. Like Bob said this washer is posted on POD now and then on A.W. And u can't see the inside so thinks for posting. I had no clue that blackstone was apart of the design very interesting, I was wondering Leon how hot do's the heater heat the water ? And thanks again. Darren k

Beautiful machine - I have this brochure that was scanned for the POD that comes up now and then but I can't find it right now. This washer is so clean, that lint filter is mint! Congrats on the great washer and being joining the POD club ;-)
