Some of you may have seen this washer on the ebay thread last week. I decided I had to have it as I've been waiting years for one to appear! Manufactured in 1989, it seems they are quite rare compared with the later Jetsystem machines.
When I got it home I realised how dirty it was, so I spent a couple of hours cleaning everything up and the shine eventually reappeared! The greater relief is that everything works as it should, including the Jetsystem and spin-wash, more of which later.
The ZFL1023/FJ1023 was the top of the range Zanussi frontloader at the time (except for the expensive Computawash FE4000). There is a spin slider and adjustable thermostat which also switches the machine on. The three buttons are:

1. Mixed Fabrics - Increases the length of Programme M (Silks) to be used as a mixed fabric programme with the maximum temperature being 40c.

2. Quick Wash - Fairly self explanatory!

3. Pre Wash - This turns soaking programmes A and H into an auto prewash. The machine automatically drains the pre wash water and continues onto the main wash B or J. Without this selected the laundry remains in the water until the drain programme P is selected.

The motor is exceptionally quiet, being a brush motor produced by AEG. The timer, too is virtually silent in operation.
When I ran the washer through a 95c wash I was surprised to see that the water actually boils, a rare sight these days!

Spin Wash Video

 I've only had chance to make one video so far. This will give you a taster of how entertaining these Jetsystem washers are! Every two minutes during the cottons wash the motor builds up to distribution speed and carries out a spin at 500rpm.

The jetsystem itself is of the heat exchanger type with the water flowing through the holes in the top of the drum.

Great looking Zanussi. I love the older Zanussi's. My Friends mother who is 90 has the washer/dryer version in showroom condition. Don't think she has ever used the dryer function

I absalutely LOVE this machine tom. Very....very...very.........very jealous lol. Best of luck with it. Old zanussi's are the best. That spinwash is excellent!!!

Hi well done for getting hold of this machine, much better than the later generation version zanussi's with the carboran tub. Very reliable machines.

I personally dont remember seeing one of these with the large cast iron AEG motors of the same era. I thought they were all fitted with the old style SOLE motors. Still these SOLE motors are better than the latter ones. Have you a picture of the motor as I might be wrong as it was a few years since I worked on them regulary.

Anyway Im going on a bit about technicalities, look after her. . .

Congratulations Tom on picking up a fine machine, sure you will have hours of fun with this one!!! I remember speaking to a local zanussi engineer and the amount of call they used to get from customers saying their machine had "gone wrong" because it was spinning whilst washing!!!!

From a salespersons point of view, you could explain how it washed but until you`ve experienced it, it does seem odd!!

Is that a replacement motor?? I thought some of the original ones where ceset motors???

Thanks Mike! Yes these machines are great fun and I can see why people thought they were malfunctioning during the wash. The washing results are excellent though, far better than later Jetsystem machines I've used.

I'm pretty sure this model either had a Sole/ZEM or AEG motor, I could be wrong though. Mine definitely looks like the one in the picture.

I don't work for Hotpoint thankfully, I must change that. It was a bit of a joke I had.

Not sure if anyone would know but what's the difference between the FJ1023 and the ZFL1023? The manuals look identical to me.
