Ok, lets put together a master list of the laundry appliances
that were made by parent companies. This would settle some questions in my mind, and I hope others too, who made what.
I will leave it to someone else to type the format, someone
more computer savy than myself. The information maybe in a
chart that tells: Parent Corporation Manufacture
Whirlpool Kenmore
Westy??

Norge Norge
Western Auto Wizard
Does anyone follow what I'm saying?
There were so MANY different washers in the 1950's & 1960's that competition was so stiff. Good heavens, I think of Penn Crest, Thor, Western Auto (Wizards), Signature, Blackstone, etc.
How ironic now that General Electric now owns Whirlpool, not
even to think of all the international subsidaries that have
now gotten into the business (in the US market). It just boggles my mind who bought out who, who quit, who survived, and
who will win. Lets get a good chart going. Anyone??
For those of us who are twinkies, under the age of 40, this might be educational too.

Barry, GE doesn't own Whirlpoo. Whirlpool acquired KitchenAid. From someone who's definitely neither under 40 or twinkish. :-)

What is needed is a family "tree". Anybody up to the task? Would be a good thing to put in the archives for referral

Guys,
I made a mess of this thread and I owe everyone an apology in
my composition. I am red faced.
A family tree would be excellent, though complex. Maybe there
is a moderator on this page that could look into this issue.

I mentioned the Whirlpool/GE connection as I remember a stock-
holders report that came across our desk, I didn't have time
to read the report. It's very strange though, as soon after I
saw that report GE changed its top loading washers to include
the dual action corkscrew agitator in their new designs. Mmmmm.
I'll dig on this connection until I get a firm answer. I do
hope I'm wrong, GE is into everything, it would be one more
good company swallowed up.

GE has the RCA brand now, using it for a 'budget' line like Whirlpool does with Roper. www.rcaappliances.com... -> www.geconsumerproducts.com...

As I understand it, no other manufacturer could use the corkscrew / dual-action agitator design until the patent expired . . which it did, and Whirlpool apparently didn't (or couldn't?) renew it.
