How do you find out the Year a appliance was made, looking at the Model/Serial Tag?

Depends on the washer. On GM Frigidaires, the first number in the serial number is the model year.

year of manufacture

Every manufacturer had a different system, so you have to learn a particlar manufacturer's system to find out when a machine was made.

Anybody ever thought of putting together a guide to the different systems each company used and putting it in the archives here?

I think that would be a great idea to have a guide for each company. It would be very useful.
