One of the rednecks at work was discussing the fact that he and his wife have an old ancient Maytag washer. (I don't remember how we came about discussing them, anyhow), he told me that it pulsated up and down. I didn't realize that Maytag made one? Years?

They didn't make them. Only GM Frigdaire, bring him a few pics of a GM Frigidaire washer, a few different models, 1-18, Rollermatic, etc.

Wringer or Spinner

It's probably a very old wringer or spinner/twintub washer. There isn't a vacuum cup (usually several small, inverted cups on a center post that moves up and down in the washtub) listed on Oldewash.com for Maytag and I think he has nearly all of the old Maytag models, perhaps it's another brand?
