Hello to all! I was recently touring a wonderful local business called ReBuild Warehouse and found 2 In Sink Erator dishwashers they have for sale. What caught my eye with them were the racks because they looked a lot like the racks of the Kitchen Aid machines I've seen so many folks posting pics of on here. I looked at the tags (that I could find) and nothing indicated that they were built by Kitchen Aid or Hobart. Does anyone know anything about this brand when it comes to dishwashers? I only know the brand for garbage disposals but was surprised to see not one but two dishwashers with that name. In general is this brand collectible or desirable? They were priced at $25 each and were black. One had the silverware basket missing while the other had the Kitchen Aid looking model with the tall handles.

Yup, they're Kitchenaid.

Go get them, especially for that price,

Kitchen Aid and In Sink Erator

This is my understanding of the relationship. In the early 90's, the KitchenAid name was purchased by Whirlpool. Over time the KitchenAid dishwasher became more Whirlpolish. In Sink Erator started marketing the Hobart built machines. I am not sure if Hobart licensed the KitchenAid name or if In Sink Erator purchased the KitcenAid manufacturing faciltiy.

You may have also noticed theat the classic Kitchen Aid disposaers and trash compacoters have been carrying the Viking badge for years.

Somewhere in the mix, the Edison Electric company is involved. I suspect that edison owned ISE.

And at a certain time

Maybe around '89 or '90, KitchenAid dishwashers were not available. My neighbor bought an Insinkerator because KitchenAid was not available to her at that time.

Does the reversing motor automatically mean that it is a Whirlpool?

ISE ownership

In-Sink-Erator is a division of Emerson Electric Co., not Edison Electric, which later became GE. If I remember correctly, Emerson bought the KitchenAid dishwasher plant, which I think was in Mt. Sterling, KY and made KitchenAid for Hobart in addition to the ISE brand. I believe this agreement was cancelled when KitchenAid was sold to Whirlpool.

Thanks to All

Hey folks, thanks so much for the answers to the question about these machines. I'm really aching for the mid 50's Hotpoint (with the Roll-R-Rack top rack) but it seems the supply of those in this area has disappeared completely, so I am considering other options. Because of the overwhelming love for Kitchen Aids on this group, I've been thinking of going that route. These In Sink Erators I found are in nice shape but they look just a tad too modern for my plans, but if anyone would like them, I can help with info on how to contact ReBuild. I'm sure they will be happy to help ship them to a new loving owner. If anyone is interested in pics I will take some and post them to the group, especially if anyone thinks they'd like to give them a new home. Again, you guys are terrific!

A whirlpool KA will have a check valve off the drain. White, about 2 or 3 inches long. Quickest way to check if it's a WP KA or a KA KA

My aunt had this same Insinkerator DW in her townhouse. She rarely used it because she was living by herself and she didn't have enough dirty dishes to fill it up. She hated the idea of leaving dirty dishes in the machine for a few days.
But when she did use it, she said it cleaned very well. It's still in perfect condition.
