Nearly a year ago, I posted about a late 60s Kenmore 500 washer I was using. I soon after was "temporarily" moved "a couple of months" so my landlord could do some repairs. A couple of months lasted nearly 9 months. Now, I'm back...only to find that the 500 seems to have developed trouble. Maybe it couldn't stand the crushing burden of living alone, unloved.
The trouble: -During wash and spin the motor runs making an odd sound. Nothing inside the tub seems to be moving, at least much, and the drive belt seems to move very slowly. My impression--and only an impression--is that something is partly frozen in the transmission or pump. -Problem #2, which may or may not be related, is that there appears to be water leaking. I don't have good enough light available tonight to see the exact location, but it's in the general area of the pump. Between the two problems, I'm wondering whether it's a bad pump. Incidentally, I did try to bring the machine back slowly. I primed with hot water--two times, in fact. Everything seemed normal, until I actually tried running it normally. I know diagnosis by Internet can be difficult, but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what could be wrong? Link to the old post about the machine.
