It's in good shape, but not worth the price.

My Custom 21 was $40. And it works just as well.

Well...

I have it.

Really Nice Old couple had it. It looks great on the outside.

Lesson 1 learned today :
No matter how sweet an older couple may appear to be... inspect the machine thoroughly.
I e-mailed them back and told them that $160.00 was way too much money for a machine that was over 30 years old.
They agreed on $80.00 because it was in such nice condition. I got to the house with my hand truck and the gent said "Now we agreed on $140.00 ?" (Lesson 2 : print a copy of the e-mail when haggling a price.) I said no, we agreed upon $80.00
He took the $80.00 with some grumbling.
Upon arrival home, (Oh, I forgot to mention that the door was duct taped shut) I opened the machine. The racks are in nice condition. The sump has a fair amount of broken glass amd I'm sure you know where this is going by now... Under the filter, down in the sump... RUST.
Not all the way through as I did look at the sump under the machine when I had it on the hand truck and it's not rusted through (TG). And of course the Overhead Constant Rinse was broken.
The restaurant will be closed soon and I'll have more time to water test it etc.
And hopefully by then I'll have my computer straightened out and post pics.

I learned a similar lesson this week with my KA Superba-West Hartford(see Thread#30730 in the Deluxe Forum).
The older couple sounded so nice, told me the DW was only used about 20 times since they liked to wash dishes by hand. The guy even delivered the DW to me, and would not take any money for gas. The ad stated is was in Pristine condition and absolutely no rust anywhere.

"Kitchenaid dishwasher with manuals. Was a top-of-the-line model with built in garbage disposal, light, normal, sanitize and potscrubber settings. Paid about $685.00 as I recall. Is an older model but was almost never used. We renovated the kitchen and bought another. The little strip of orange you can see at the top in the photo is insulation, not rust. There is NO rust on this dishwasher - it is pristine! In fact we never removed the light blue cellophane used to protect the chrome trim! It is an under-the-counter, but put a butcher block top on it and use it as a free standing. Great for a cottage or college apartment. $50.00 or best offer. Cash and carry."

The inside is in great condition, but, there was a big rust spot at the top rear of the tub. Come to find out, is seems that something damaged the back of the machine resulting in it leaking from the tube that feeds the upper wash arm(looks like something was dropped on the back).
Inside the sump area, I found two plastic straws and a plastic fork.

The racks alone are worth $50, but I planned on keeping that machine. I am working on putting some waterproof siclicone on the feed tube to stop the leak.

I don't have the heart to tell the people about the problem since the guy was good enough to deliver it to me.

I thought I could use the timer for my KA 22 series that is my daily driver in the kitchen, but, the wash series is different.

I might just offer it 'FREE' to anyone on the sight who wants it.

We shall see.

Good luck with your KA!

Hi Gary

Thanks for your comforting words. My gut is telling me they knew what they were doing.
Yes, The racks in this machine are worth it. Hopefully when I get around to hooking some power up to it the bearings are not shot. But there is no signs of corrosion or any water damage under the machine.
BTW... I will be in NJ soon to pick up a Maytag Set that BrianL was nice enough to and get for me. Maybe we could have Lunch ? Eddie
