Here's the deal. Our Aqualtis failed miserably after only 2 and a half years and we need a 2nd hand washing machine, £70 max. And it has to be in the area.

We just missed out on a Aquarius WF000 which I didn't want to buy but were desperate. Next up is a faulty AEG LAVALOGIC 1610 with a broken door handle and I think it needs a new PCB, the display is flashing. So do I go for the AEG and fix it or wait for another bargain?

Any help on this is appreciated.

Cheers,

Wise words there.

We've just picked up a Zanussi ZWD1680W Timeline 1600 and for an old machine i'm very surprised with it. I had to remove the front panel, door and kick panel and give them a real good clean. But apart from that it works brilliantly! I actually think it'll perform better than the Aqualtis we had...

Thanks. It might seem a little strange to say this but I like this Zanny more than the Aqualtis we had.

For a 6 year old machine it's just as quiet as the Aqualtis. The only thing you hear is the re-circulation pump during the wash for the JetWash feature and the motor hums when it starts. Also when it spins it whines a little but it's part of it's character.

I'm gonna get the hydraulic struts, door hinges and a door seal for it.

Hi Remeniz

That Zanussi looks good. I think these machines were abit of a crossover from the XC range with the turquoise & yellow buttons (FJS1225W etc) and the newer double-named machines (Jetsystem Timeline, Progress Hydrosystem etc). The former have proved very well lasting for a modern machine so you could've found yourself a bargain :)

There's certainly not that many of these machines around compared to other Zanussis either, a fairly rare find.

The noises you describe sound typically modern-Zanussi. The motors on newer Zanussis i've used let out a hummmmm sound as they begin to tumble & the noise does increase quite abit on spin, it just seems the way Zanussi does things. Sometimes it can make you wonder if something's not quite right when they start whining, but then on the next cycle it's quieter again. Very load-dependant i've found.

Anyway best of luck with the machine. Remember if the Jetsystem pump starts to play up, to get it looked at asap as prolonged use with it not functioning can cause the PCB to fail, which you obviously don't want!

Best Wishes,
Liam
