This is a A 4523 black agitator for a Maytag wringer washer. This agitator has no cracks or missing pieces and is the one with the skirt around the spline area. The spline insert is in excellent condition.

That would be like the one in the machine that Jamie is going to get!

Also in AUTOMATICS---

I remember those agitators were also in the BOL Automatics Maytag sold in the late fifties and early sixties. Would love to get one of those! By the way, is it possible this agitator could have been used in an automatic? Is there a way to tell? -Steve

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I do not think the automatic agitator was interchangeable with the wringers. Even tho they looked the same on the outside, the splines were located differently.

I think fixerman is correct. The agitators were not interchangeable. I'm sure it had something to do with the spline.

It is the same agitator that was used in the Highlander series of automatics. I guess Maytag did that to save money?
