weird!

that is weird!-never seen anything like it-panasonic did have some weird,
imaginative designs back in the '70s and '80s...

Those are very cool. I've not seen one in person yet, but seems like others have posted photos of them here when we've been talking about vintage microwaves like Amana Radaranges and such.

Nice score!

It looks like the type of device a mad scientist would have in his lab!

It looks like it should have tractor-feed paper spewing out the back!

Ya...

it's different all right! I picked it from Ebay. Works really well. The manufacture date is January 1976.

Here is another pic of another "different" microwave that I'd like to find.

Those are different. The Panasonic reminds me of dental office equipment, and the Kenmore looks like a TV.

That Panasonic doesn't look like it would hold much.

My GE microwave blew up almost two years ago; missed it at first, but no longer do. Was very displeased as it was less than four years old, and I had bought the trim kit to build it in when I do the kitchen. Suppose I'll get another at some time.

TOP LOADING PANASONIC MW OVEN

combo52's profile picture

Guy I found the exact same one at a thrift store in Golden Valley Mn a year or so ago, it even looks like the trim on the bottom of the control panel is broken on yours also. Litton also made a top loading microwave around this time but the cheaper Littons weren't that well built and I haven't seen one of these in about 30+ years.

I recall the Panasonic when they were on the market. The small-town Whirlpool dealer where I grew up sold Panasonic micros, I saw this SkyLite model at the store.

Yup...

the trim was broken during shipping...I will try and glue some of the larger pieces together. I'd love to see what the Litton top loading microwave looked like!

Even though the interior is very small,

about the size of a Stouffer's Macaroni and Cheese, it is surprisingly powerful for its size and age.

In the mid 90s, I volunteered at a social service agency, and that was the model of microwave in the staff lounge. We called it the "Jetson Micro."

Here is a bit different angle, looking down upon the oven that John (combo52) has in his collection.  I've always thought they were interesting and although smaller capacity than the footprint belies and oddly shaped from what we're used to it has a fair capacity.

(Anyone recognize the machine it's sitting on?)

Wow!

Never seen anything like that, I love it!

I have a bit of a thing for vintage microwaves, especially panasonics.

Wow, that really reminds me of the Zenith Allegro stereo system I had in 1983.

UNUSUAL MW OVEN

The 2nd MW pictured in the beginning of this thread is a Sears Kenmore model that was built by Litton for Sears.
