My 606 squeals for a few seconds at the beginning of each spin cycle. I'm guessing bearings.

SQUEALING WASHER

More likely the the main drive belt than bearings. Tilt the machine back and lift off the belts, if the cloth covering is worn off the sides of the main drive belt you need a new belt. The main DB is the thicker of the two, the pump belt is not critical and unless it is cracked and frayed it will work fine, the PB will usually out live the washer. If there is oil on the pulleys use some old rags and solvent to fully clean all around the pulleys. You should also take the front off the washer and make sure the motor assembly moves easily toward the center of the machine and returns quickly on its own, if not add a few drops of light oil to the four corners of the motor carriage and work the motor assemble back and fourth until it moves freely.

Thanks I will check the belts and motor in a little bit. The belts aren't very old maybe a month or two short of a year.

Are those guys from Deliverance abusing your Maytag?

Does anyone remember when the belts on cars: alternator, power steering, air conditioning, etc. would squeal when they needed "adjusting". If it was the power steering belt, the car would protest loudly whenever it went around a corner. I remember containers of Belt Dressing in the service bays of garages.

Chrysler products, at least some of them, used to have full time power steering instead of power assisted steering like GM cars. One of my dad's friends always drove big Chryslers and one time the PS belt broke when he was on the highway and it made such a sudden change in the handling of the car that it went off the road. I don't think he or the car suffered injury, but it was a scary story when I was an elementary school kid.

When the sintered bronze tub bearing in a Maytag needs to be reimpregnated with oil, it makes a neat growling noise.

They best not be Tom, or I will have to kick some major butt, LOL. I'm going to check the belts in a bit.

I checked the belts they are fine, and since I had them off, I cleaned all the pulleys with a wet rag and Dawn. I also took the same rag and wiped the belts and dried the with a clean towel. I washed a medium load of white--no squealing so far.

One medium load, one normal load, and one large load, and no squealing. Didn't know dirty belts and dirty pulleys could cause such a noise.
