KitchenAid Briva In-Sink Dishwashers |

 Included in my growing Dishwasher collection are two KitchenAid Briva In-Sink Dishwashers. I have mentioned them in past discussion threads, but one in particular, I spoke about repairing the Lid Balance Links on the KIDS01EKSS0 (42 inch) model (link below). This machine was the first of the two that I purchased, in June 2009 on eBay. It was manufactured in December 2003. The second machine, KIDS36EPSS1 (36 inch) model, was purchased on eBay in June 2010. It was manufactured in January 2007. Both machines have been shuffled from one place to another since arrival: from solarium to basement; from floor to tabletop, and back again; then on top of a dryer. Finally, I have purchased a couple of used kitchen sink base cabinets to house each dishwasher, and have fitted them with Teflon sliders for easy repositioning around the basement. I have plumbed each Dishwasher/Sink with PVC drain pipe and a washing machine drain hose – that can be lowered to a floor drain when in operation. And both have water supply lines that can be attached to a fill hose from the laundry sink. Naturally, I have been anxious to get a look at these dishwashers in action. So I bought a thin piece of Plexiglas from Hobby Lobby, cut it to fit the lid opening of the 42 inch model, and it worked as a suitable, temporary, viewing window. What follows is a video compilation that serves to describe both dishwashers, a look at the rack and drain system, and lastly, two See-it-Wash segments (first without, second with dishes). The video is not without fault, as the Plexiglas reflects my basement ceiling, causing some viewing difficulties. BUT, one does get an idea of the quality of wash action, or lack thereof. I have to say that I am disappointed overall with the sprayarm coverage, as you will see in the video. And for the exorbitant amount of money that these units sold for, I am thankful that I did not actually buy one and put in my modern kitchen when we renovated it in 2007. I did a search for Briva in YouTube, but did not find any other videos of a KitchenAid Briva. So perhaps this is the first one, unless there have been other videos, but since removed. cool concept 
I remember seeing these back in 2006, they would be great for a bar etc, If I remember they were pricey , I like the "old school" concept of the top popping up, kinda like the old GE electric sink. I see the spray arm is attached to the rack, I wonder if it gets a solid mating with water in the bottom of the unit? Maybe water pressue is being lost. These would be good for light duty purposes only I think,

Loved the concept of these..
I'm with verizonbear in that these were pricey.. I thought they would be great in a bar area... Even considered as my primary during my kitchen remodel, but they were discontinued. Happy I didn't spring the $ and opted for a regular DW (Jenn Air JDB1100AWS) instead after seeing the wash performance. Even though my DW repair guy is coming to fix my DW for a faulty control panel, I love the performance of my regular DW.. I think it's a 'last model' Maytag prior to the WP takeover. I'm a fan of all things KA, but I don't know that this would have fit my needs. Thanks for posting!

Mike, I have one of these units. I actually use it so much more than the full size DW. I have to say that I really like the Briva. Do you have the dedicated small hot water heater that was offered? I went ahead with it and am glad I did. I will say if you are standing in front of the machine when the lid pops it will burn ya! | ||

Interesting video! I have to say whatever was placed in the center odds are it would not get washed much at all. Really surprised at the very poor spray pattern. These are vaguely reminiscent of the more popular dishdrawers that are out now. My cousin has a st of the F/P brand and really like them. | ||

Interesting video and a great job. This is a neat machine, but watching the video it didn't seem as though the water was spraying out of all the holes in the wash arm. The water looked like it was only coming out the end ones. I would check to see what is going on there, water should be exiting out all the wash arms. Is there enough water in the tub? I would check this out, as there should be more spray action occuring in that machine. That could be the cause of the arm not turning when loaded with dishes.

Neat! VERY nice job, Mike! Totally fascinating. I love the idea--I think that paired with a full-sized dishwasher, this would be totally awesome. I'm one of those people that loves being able to knock out the utility dishes before dinner. (And the--how was it, Greg--"me wash you long time" units like the full-sized KA pictured wouldn't pull that off.)
I think the idea of hanging the arm under the rack is totally novel. My eyes bugged out when you pulled the bottom rack and the arm came with it! :-) | ||

 One wishes this could be on of Mike's GE Electric sinks but NOT ! With only a half a gallon or less water and a small motor for this application and todays standerd of low energy wash systems it does what it suppose to do. The second wash was not full that answers that. But with the regular program the dishes are clean. We had this in our showroom yrs ago does an good job on prep dishes , glasses even pot & pans. And with the hot water Booster it will reach temps to 160f very effective clean. The resson why they did not sell as well was the price of over at the time over 14 or 1500 if not higher price tag cant recall the actual price but well over 1500.00 hundred bucks. We sold two , one was for a guy who had a basement bar ..he like it because of the sink. The next person had it for a pantry bar again for the sink because space was limited and money was no object. That said F & P wins out for single dishdrawer machines .. 1. less expensive about 800 now less. 2. The look and ease. 3. Some would want two side by side and it's great for Kosher homes for meat & dairy. All would be for again pantry or butler kitchens or family theater basments, for easy clean ups..one drawer applications. Soooo because of the price tag and little sales and a host of other problems they discountued it. Here is the video I suppose to give to Mike which I will see him in June.

New in box KA Briva I bought one of these washers years ago to install in my wet-bar. Due to a new job, we sold the house and moved, kept the washer for a future project. That never happened so I'm ready to part with it if anyone out there is interested. | ||

Looking for Briva!
If anyone has an extra Kitchenaid Briva they are not using or would like to sell, please make me an offer!! We want a small dishwasher for our 1973 31” Airstream Sovereign renovation. Imagine one of these in an Airstream! We’re considering other brands, but sad to see this concept isn’t marketed anymore.
