Hello,
The other day we came upon a Maytag E2L wringer washer that works. We pluged in, filled with water and she works like a dream. I have tried reaserching this machine online to try and determine an age, but have had no such luck. I came upon this site and was amazed at the knowlege! So can someone help me out? I have looked at many pictures of the same model online, but have not found one yet that has actual chrome (or whatever the metal is made of ;)) letter on the front that spells out Maytag. Is there a way I can put an age to this beautiful machine?
Thanks ;-)

Congrats on a great find! My mother used a Maytag wringer washer until 1972/73, If washers would fit down my basement stairs I would definitely have a wringer or two down there.

Yes! You can put an age to it. The chrome letters on the front indicate that your E2 was made from 1959 through 1965, and it should have a black agitator.

On the rear of the machine (above the patent/model tag), there should be a serial number stamping up near the crown. The E is late enough that it should be 5 numbers followed by two letters. Let us know what the letters are and we can narrow it down to the month and year.

Congrats! I haven't used mine in years but it certainly is one of the most talked about machines when friends and family stop over. "Oh my grandma had a washer like that..."

Ben

Our find is identical to the one above (well not as pretty) but the same. However it does not have a black agitator it is light green. The serial number showen is 19817RA.
Thank so much for reply :-)

Date code RA

Looks like January, 1962 based on my chart. Enjoy!

Thanks for the date, really cool to know! Also not working like a dream no more! lol! The agitator has become worn on the inside. Is there anywhere one can be purchased or is it something I need to find?
:-)
