Hardwick in the mid 1980s, and Hardwick was just (as far as I can remember) cooking, gas and electric. We had a gas Hardtag, and it was a very good range. Lawrence/Maytagbear |

Crosley products were also made by Whirlpool as well as Maytag. Also Whirlpool made a line of RCA Victor appliances in Canada at least during the 1960's (and NO I do not mean RCA Whirlpool I MEAN RCA Victor). Philco started making apppliances circa 1940 and was NOT part of Ford Motor Co. until 1962. Capri was a bottom line of appliances sold by Sears here in the states. Later the name was switched to Galaxy and was still sold in Sears stores here in the states. Before being bought by Maytag, Amana was owned by Raytheon Corp (being purchased by Raytheon in 1965) as was Speed Queen after Raytheon purchased SQ from McGraw Edison in the early 1980's (that is why Amana and Speed Queen Laundry appliances were twins for a number of years). Raytheon also owned Caloric Stove Co. Tappan was bought by WCI as was Kelvinator (AMC sold off Kelvinator in 1968). Prior to AMC selling it off, Kelvinator made appliances under the Leonard and Duracrest names here in the states and under the HMV name in Canada. McLary in Canada also was associated with the Easy Co. as well because some of their advertisements mention their washer having a Sprialator. Easy was purchased by the Murray Corp in the 1950's and then by the Hupp Corp. circa 1963 (yes the same Hupp Corp that made the Huppmobile into the 1930's) I also remember seeing WCI washers and Dryers with the Southern States name on them at the Southern States Store in Deer Park MD sometime in the 1980's and from 1963 to circa 1975 GE made appliances for JC Penney under the Penncrest name.........PAT COFFEY This post was last edited 09/22/2011 at 22:26 |

My aunt had an RCA dishwasher from the early/mid seventies which was a Whirlpool design. It had the newer RCA logo (like it was on the 1970's, 1980's and even newer RCA TV sets), it was not identified as a RCA Victor or RCA Whirlpool, just RCA. It had a vertical rectangular chrome door latch just like Inglis/Whirlpool dishwashers from that period and the same slanted control panel design.
Leonard refrigerators were also available in Canada. My grandfather had one from the mid-to-late 1940s (1947 if I remember well). And it was sold by Northern Electric. There was a big Northern Electric badge just above the handle. My grandfather worked for Northern Electric and he told me these were made by Kelvinator. When I was a kid, my grand parents kept their cereal boxes in the storage compartment below the refrigerator door. It was easy to reach even for me! I was about 4 when they moved it to the basement and bought a new Kelvinator refrigerator to replace it. The old fridge was still in the basement the last time I went to their house (about 10 years after they sold it, 6 years ago) |
