anyone besides WP/KM use "packard"motors?-seems to be the brand of motor found in
most '55-60 era WP/KM appliances.Built by GM,but a different design from delco,
these were a prize find at the dump because they ran very smooth and quiet.

I didn't know that!

I used to have ignition wires on my '65 Buick Wildcat that were stamped Delco-Packard.

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with Packard automobiles or if it's completely unrelated?

Youngstown Kitchens did too. The 49 or 50 Jet-tower dishwasher that I got earlier this year has a Packard motor.

Packard electric motor

Greetings:

Packard electric motors and electrical wire are made by a company that is not affiliated with the old Packard Motor Car company. I believe they are/were affiliated with General Motors (Delphi?) "Packard" ignition wires are still very common today.

James Ward Packard had an electric company in his hometown of Warren, Ohio. before he built his first car. He sold it and it was eventually taken over by GM. So yes it is the same person.

I've got a Packard motor from a frogeye Kenmore if anyone needs it.

When I worked for Pepsi here in Wausau in the early 90's, there was an old Packard motor with a grindstone mounted on it, which was in the maintenance shop area.  That motor ran so quietly you almost forgot it was running.  I often wish I had that motor, and wonder where it is now.

Packard Electric and Packard Motorcars: same founder

Hi Supersuds:

That's interesting - I didn't realize that the two companies had the same founder. I think it is pretty neat that the plug wires marked "Packard" on my wife's car have a tie back to the Packard Motorcar Company through the founder!
