well, i do the same with my big whirlpool, somethings need a wash at regular speed but don't need a long spin, so i let it go through the wash on normal till it gets to spin, then switch it to Perma Press Spin and let it complete. Sometimes, if i have things that are partcularly heavy, like a full load of towels, i let it finish and then run the cycle again with no soap, just to make sure their soap free. I hate it when the last spin water is still soapy. If i was designing a timer, i would have a seperate Towel cycle with maybe 3 rinses and an extended spin. I don't really like modern washing machines, they have to many 'Energy and Water saving features' that stop clothes from being washed and rinsed properly.
