All installed.
I had one of these about 3 years ago and brought it to our own stevet in Florida. I used to have a KDS-19 which I bought Brand New in 1980. It cleaned well, but as we all know the Drying was Horrible. The 20 I had previously cleaned well but I wish it had the Constant Rinse. Of course this one doesn't have the Constant Rinse, but for the most part still does well. Can't wait to Bob Load this Bad Boy tonight or tomorrow night. As previously learned, I won't put the Lower Panel on until He runs a few times and there are no "Sudden Drips. |

The Machine came out of a house that was built in the 80's (1983 hence the age of the machine) A Young Couple bought the house and wanted replace the stove. So they went with a Black Maytag Range and Dishwasher. His wife said the KA cleaned well, but was too noisy. The Guy went on how clean the house was and how well maintained everything was when they bought the house.
Hmmmm... I should have asked them what was left behind for a Washer and Dryer by the previous owners. LOL !!! |

Did you get any history with the machine? Although the 20 lacked the constant rinse, it did have a slit, I think, in the plastic piece that fed the upper wash arm that sent a spray over the top of items in the top rack. It was better than nothing; how much, I don't know. |

Thanks.
@ Kevin: 8 Dishwashers @ Tom... The only History on the machine is that the "Guy" I bought it from stated that "The Machine was metuculously maintained. And as you can see It was (Is). Tom, I believe that "Slit" type assembly was sort of a replacement part for the Original Design for the Constant Rinse. There was also a Impeller type design that I have a few of. The Original design I believe hung down too low and most people didn;t even know they were there. Hence, putting something too tall in the center of the upper rack and snapping it off when they pushed the Rack in. This post was last edited 12/12/2011 at 15:54 |

I am truly excited about this one.
I am just cleaning out the Fridge tonight and will run a load of Platics and Pots from reheating tonight. I will post the Bob Load as I will cook "Heavy" tomorrow night. @ Steve... Yes, Somehow when there is something on the Cape, I'll stumble upon it. This machine is soooo Beautiful. Now I have to run every cycle and figure out the sequence. As I don't have the Owner's Manual to tell me what's going on. I sort of regret giving up that 20 I gave you, but here's the replacement. @ Patrick, Thanks for the kind words. I just get so excited when I find these Vintage Beauties here on the Cape as they (for the most part) were used by Older Couples or used in a High End Summer Home which are only used 3 times a year for Cocktail Glasses. LOL @ Martin, Yup he's a beauty and a Keeper once I combine the 3 KDS-18s and make One good one. |

I love the sound of those clicks as the timer resets itself - one of my favorite parts of all rapid-advance machines!
Congrats on a beautiful find, what a low-use machine. Amazing to us that use these machines all the time that someone could walk by this everyday and NOT turn it on! You're probably right about the summer home, there is enough to do on the cape for vacationers to almost never need to eat at home! |

Very nice machine. What is the "best practice" for transporting an older machine like this? Remove racks - or tape and pack them with blankets or... And what do you do with the spray arm? |

If it's close to home, I don't do much but drive slow and make sure it won't tip over. (Driving Slow will piss anyone off behind me and hopefully they'll look at the Beautiful Machine in my truck wishing they had one or remmber they had one in their childhood). LOL. Long distance, Upright, tied down and wrapped with Pallet Wrap 4 times over to prevent Weather Damage.

The New Guy is finished running with 3 Clicks of the Rapid Advance Timer, but was feeling lonely on his first night home. So, what else could I do ? Of Course, but bring in Grandma to make him feel at home. (Where I get the Gender things for my machines, I haven't a Clue) !!! I'm such a silly fag ! LOL

Yes it's a Great Machine for the One Arm Wonder. The KDS 55 is truly a "Dishwasher". Tricky Loading but cleans Great. As for the "New Guy" , They can wash it all. Pots, Pans, Dishes, it's as we know because of the Wash Arm under the Upper Rack.
@ Ben, Thanks for your Compliments. Yup , It's wonderful to find someone that doesn't remove the film.@ paul, Thanks. we'll talk soon @ Mr. Gansky, The Rapid Advance gives me Goose Bumps aka "Chicken Skin" !!! Although, I'm no Spring Chicken anymore. LOL @ Drew... I remember and have the pics from the thread of the Black Paneled 19 Dan got.. Great Beautiful Machine. Yup. The 20 is a better machine, but the 19 was good as well, except for the drying which I stated earlier and most agree. Thanks Everyone for your Kind Comments. It's always fun to find a "Gem". |

Have you tried the drying cycle on your KDS-20, and if so, how did it do? One thing I dislike about modern dishwashers is that they don't dry worth a darn, plastics in particular. |

What was said earlier by Allen "Whirlcool" about people feeling it is easier to wash dishes by hand is true of my oldest sister and her husband. True, they have a BOL Frigidaire/Electrolux dw, but with proper loading I've proven to her that it can do a decent job. She claims that she can notice a significant jump on their electric & water rates when the dw is used. Although there may be a slight uptick in electric usage, I've tried to show her that their water consumption would actually decrease, but she's convinced otherwise. Oh well, I tried. |

Does she read Consumer Reports? If so, they've performed tests that show automatic dishwashing uses less water/energy than hand-washing does. |

That's a great find, Eddie.
I found one at Habitat For Humanity last year. It wasn't as nice as yours but by the time I got done with it it almost was. And the great thing about it was, I was wandering through an old local hardware and appliance parts store shortly afterwards and found all kinds of replacement parts. I couldn't believe it. A new wash arm support, four-way hydro-sweep, the original water valves, door gaskets and I can't remember what else. Between those new parts and the parts from our old machines, there's enough to keep a KDS-20 going for a hundred years. But I won't be here to keep 'em going though. Maybe I can get my nephew interested someday? If you haven't seen it already, it's thread #31983 |

Eddie,
I don't know if you're interested or not, but you can get those panels off Ebay. Go to Ebay, type in dishwasher panels, go to second page first line in gallery view and they're the panels between the KitchenAid Control panel and the GE Control Panel. His store is legacysedge 88. Click on the panels. They're $37.00. .028 gauge. The panels that fit your machine will be described as being 23 1/2 x 18 3/4 and 23 1/2 x 6 1/2. There maybe some more listed in his store somewhere. If you decide you want them you will need to take the other two panels out of the front of the machine to put the stainless ones in. You should probably clean the two old panels that came out of your machine. After being sandwiched in there for 30 plus years they might have a little dirt around the edges and in between them. It took quite a bit of cleaning for me to clean mine, but my machine had been used more than yours. After you clean them, wrap them in plastic and put in a safe place for keeping. You can slide out the cardboard insert and check the inter door while you're at it, if you decide you're interested. Just thought I'd mention it. |
