Hello everyone

I visited my aunts yesterday evening and she was saying the hotpoint aquarius wma58 was making a weird noise. I put it on spin, it seems to be rattling whilst at higher speeds it will rattle for a few seconds stop for 1 or 2 seconds etc. Could it be the bearings on their way out or something else, other than that the machines been problem free since purchase!

Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you

Rattling in the Drum

Do you hear rattling if spinning the drum by hand? - If so, it might be a penny or something between tub and drum. If you only hear it on the high spin speeds, then it might be a worn out spider or bearings. What is the spin speed on that machine?

...or it could be suspension.

Letting others hear the noise by doing a short clip could be easier and quicker than us all hypothisizing

Hey

Thank you for the replies

I got round to taking videos yesterday. As you'll see it only gets loud at high spin speeds. Its fine whilst washing and rinsing. The drum bearings seem fine as when the drum is spun there is just the normal sound.

Any comments, help etc will be appreciated

Thank you very much :)

Suspension?

Does it sound like the suspension? As the suspension sounds the same as it does normally when you wobble the drum.

It sounds a bit like a jet at the final fast spin 1000+.

Someone said it could be the spider, is that a possibility?

Thanks

It sounds like suspension to me. The suspension does sound different handling shocks from a high-speed spin.
Not sure if the spider's a possibility though

Okay, it possibly could be. I think we've decided to replace it now as it is pretty loud.

Thank you :)

Have you washed those "booster" wonder bras with that metal part?

If so, maybe one of those "women torture devices" may have fallen from the bra and are between the drum and the tub.

that's the price we pay when women with 2 fried eggs want to have 2 air bags.

It happened to my Ecoturbo. I was in front of it right when it started and i hit the emergency shut off button.

Luckily I could grab a tiny tip of it before it fell in the gap. No damages, but a dead bra.

Just to put clear, the bra wasn't mine. LOL

Thanks everyone

This made me laugh (just a little :P) I'm not sure if a bra has got in, i'll have to ask the female folk if they are missing any hehe

Update- Apparently I have been told it got even louder today.

Hey everyone :)

I got round to opening the machine up yesterday. I found that the bottom weight at the front of the machine was just a tad loose, which caused that awful noise. Thankfully the machine was no longer being used and it didn't come apart. It got tightened and is working as normal.

I put in a towels load, it worked as normal. I think its not heating as its a hot and cold fill machine the wash water was just warm as the usual 50oc wash is warmer at the touch. The hot water that is taken in for the main wash is very hot as the boiler is situated not far from the washing machine.

What could be causing the heating problem, loose wire? Help much appreciated :)

Thank you all :)

I've checked all the wires on the heating element and on the board behind the control panel. They're all in. The machine is now on a 70oc wash but isn't heating :s Does that mean a new heating element is required?

Thank you

Re: Heater Element

Ive had the same problem with my machine - I tried it on cottons 40c after i did the bearings but it didnt heat. The timer was working fine and I checked to see if it skipped intervals, and apparantly it didnt. I looked at the heater element, and the tips of the connecting plugs were worn. so off with the top of the heater and soldered new tails on the connecting plugs, plugged it back in and it worked fine. Check the tails of the connecting plug with a meter and see if it works, if it doesn't than you may need a new heater element. Henry

Thank you very much :)

The cycle is running as it should, washing, doing its distribution washing, spinning etc when it should. The tips looked fine to me, I removed the plugs and put them back on to see if that would cure the problem but it didn't. Should I get a new heating element?

As with the soldering, i'm not experienced in this field so wouldn't want to mess anything up as the machine still seems to have some life in it. I know a lot of people had problms with Hotpoint WMA series, but none with this even with daily use which is impressive :)

Noise

Are the concrete weights on tight? worth checking, I've seen a few rattle loose on Hotpoints at speed. Doesn't really sound like bearings. Could be suspension legs or loose heater also as suggested above.

Steve

Hey Steve

I have tightened the concrete weights so the noise has stopped which is good as we no longer need to purchase a new machine :)

The machine doeswn't heat the water, think i'm going to order a new heating element and hopefully that should sort the problem as it has been running problem free for atleast 8 years or so now.

Thank you

Check anny thing inside that is loose

Around the tub unit , I`m good at finding problems . My 1960`s Westinghouse front loader had a loose baffel inside the outer drum
