I think it's more of a design-thing than an actual washing machine. Much like this Miele dishwasher concept, which had a dishwasher rising out of the counter.

Bob-- That's the first thing I thought, too! The laundromat in the tiny town where I grew up had two rows of these round Westys. They were such fun to watch--especially the ones with the exposed fill tube.
And they ran with the door open, too. No safety switch. Can you imagine trying to insure a laundromat full of these in this day and age? Full disclosure: I found this photo at Google Images, but I have the feeling it belongs to an AW family member. If this photo and/or washer is yours, please take credit. |

Apart from Bendix and Laundromat the very first Bosch fridge came in a similar round design.
It was not this shape for the sake of desingn but it was more energy efficient and cheaper to build than a normal fridge. CLICK HERE TO GO TO mrboilwash's LINK |

The Bauknecht design at the beginning of this thread sure is interesting, I'd buy one IF they could really make it work. However I will be so bold as to say that both this one and the two in the photos Darren posted are strictly a design mockups, not anywhere close to functioning prototypes.
The "photo" of Ross's coin-op Westinghouse above is technically mine, I suppose. It's actually a still from the video I shot, the link is below. I have one of those coin-op Westie's too, but have not figured out where to bolt it down yet.
