As most of you know there are no washing machines made in the UK anymore since Hoover and Hotpoint shifted out to Europe and further afield. Well it seems that Ebac, famed for their high quality dehumidifiers are going to produce washing machines of their own in a factory in County Durham. If successful they will make other appliances as well. I do hope they produce something well made and stylish. Watch this space.

Domestic manufacturing is a good thing. I hope they are very successful.

If thier washers are as good as thier dehumidifieres, then they will be pretty durable! :)

I wonder what it would take to get Ebac to make a USA version of their dehumidifiers?

The USA dehumidifier market consists of Chinese made junk that only lasts maybe 2 years. It may or may not have a familiar brand name stuck on the cabinet. Retail prices run $150-$220 depending on capacity, so that means $75 to $110 machine cost per year given the short lifespan.

I think there might be a market for a better quality machine that would last at least 5 years...

We had a dehumidifier, I can't remember who made it, but it lasted 20 years with 2 minor repairs - a fan motor replacement and a refrigerant leak repair and recharge. That's how things ought to be made.

I do hope they make a reliable mid to top range machine that does what it needs to for this climate,

Question - would one buy it with the name Ebac on it??, do hope they come up with a new source name and branding!!

So what would the specs be:

8kg, up to 1600rpm Variable spin, 0d to 95d Variable Temperatures, Variable wash times and linked programmes for Light, Medium and Heavy stain.

3 compartment smooth sided dispenser, long like the quartz

4 shock absorbers on a rigid frame

and cold water spray pumping whilst spin coasting to clear excess foam

Drum - no holes with eco water levels

Whats Your Spec?

....so, a Servis then, yeh Mike? :P

Glad to see a return to british made appliances. I've always thought the trouble with our economy is that we don't manufacture anything anymore, therefore we don't have anything to sell - we just keep buying. Hopefully more companies will follow.
