Hi everyone, first I wanted to just check to make sure everyone who placed an order for the DVD has now received their DVD. If for some reason you haven’t please email me.

Robert,

Did you find a way to film the Pulsamatics so that they don't blur out? I thought the 1955 one was out of commission until you rebuilt that noisy mechanism?

I'm going to postpone voting on the Pulsamatic and instead vote for the 1951 GE because it has that wild cooldown spray rinse.

Since the first DVD was the Wizard from the 60's I'd like to suggest the next one be an older machine from 40's or 50's just for variety. I'll vote for the 51 GE since it has a white tub and is such a rare machine.

you mean we have a choice?

making us choose is almost cruel. I'm torn between the '47 bendix and the '49 maytag amp
do you still have some of the wizard dvds left?
I told dennis I want one for christmas-he said he would get it for me

Peter the '55 Pulsamatic has been fixed for a while.

David, yes I have 2 Wizard DVD's left if you would like one. So what's your choice the '47 Bendix or the '49 AMP? Must choose only one :)

At least in Applianceville...

...Our Vote Counts!! :-)

Now if we could all agree on which appliance to vote for.lol. I vote for the Dishwashers #23. I figured I'd be the odd one of the bunch. Gotta love them dishwashers.

Questions

mrb627's profile picture
[1] How many DVD's did we sell for our first chapter?

[2] I think we should choose the next two machines. #2 and #3. The number 2 dvd should have a teaser for number 3.

[3] I would also vote for the 51 GE. Perhaps a teaser for the Harmony.

if I MUST choose

I would vote for the maytag. I've had one of those bendix' in my life, so I've seen that(though its been years)
The maytag get my vote because my mom had an AMP design washer when I was little. The hated lid switch made sure the washer drama remained kapu(taboo) to me. I want this forbidden wash action revealed

Looks like the '51 GE is the front runner. With 4 votes so far, but things can change quickly. Lets keep the voting open for a few days. Oooooh what happens if we have a tie? A runoff maybe?

I messed up the original list, I listed #19 twice, so here is an update, please include the selection # with your vote.

Decision 2004

hmmmmmm My mom had a 60's model ABC, I guess before they became kelvinator?......my grandmother had a Philco with the high frequency agitation, that one is not listed. My other grandmother had a lady kenmore, but she did not allow me around her washer, I do remember sneaking a peek inside, it wasn't running though :( I have to vote for the 57 Lady Kenmore...from the first time I saw the restoration pictures I was in love with her. SHE IS BEAUTIFUL. Come on guys vote for the glowing beauty !! #11 57 Lady Kenmore ( I guess campaiging is ok ?)

For those who asked about the Wizard DVD, yes I have a few copies left and I can also burn a few more if necessary so if you would like one follow the instructions under See-It-Wash DVD on our home page.

Once we decide on a machine we then can talk about what types of washloads for the two complete cycles and how to film it (top removed, small load, etc).

Here is how the votes stand so far...

51 GE-----------5
66 Kelvinator---5
Diswasher Set---4
57 Ld Kenmore---3
49 Maytag AMP---2
59 Duomatic-----2
56 Norge TimeL--2
52 Whirlpool----2
55 Unimatic-----1
58 Unimatic-----1
55 Westinghouse-1

Damn, what great choices. Normally I would vote for the Kelvy since it has that trippy agitator action even more unusual than a Frigidaire, BUT, I'm going to vote for the 3-for-one "value" of the dishwasher video.

Five-Way Tie

unimatic1140's profile picture
The voting is officially closed now!!

Isn't this funny, here are the final vote totals and we have a five way tie!

5 - 1951 GE
5 - Maytag AMP
5 - 1966 Kelvinator
5 - Dishwasher DVD
5 - Lady Kenmore
3 - Westinghouse Laundromat
2 - Bendix Duomatic
2 - Norge TL
2 - Whirlpool
1 - 1955 Frigidaire Unimatic
1 - 1958 Frigidaire Unimatic
1 - Bolt-Down Bendix

Looks like we have a five way tie, between the Kelvinator, GE, Kenmore, Maytag and Dishwasher DVD.

I guess just like in the presidential election its going to have to be thrown in the "House of Representatives" or more closley the "Basement of Representatives" and they (meaning me) have to make one final vote.

And my vote is

Just kidding you guys. I think my 5 way tie-breaking vote is:

THE '51 GENERAL ELECTRIC.

Its a wonderful machine and so very, very vintage, actually its an antique now. I will do all those other DVDs too at some point. And if I wait on the Dishwasher DVD, I should be able to get the pink KD-12 KitchenAid on it too.

Now as for the '51 GE, what types of wash loads should be filmed (2 cycles) and how. I can certainly film it with the top off, it will give a much better view of the action across the entire tub, as well as some shots of the water being thrown out of the tub into the outer tub. Awaiting suggestions...

Post# 48885 , Reply# 59   11/9/2004 at 09:06 (7,104 days old) by lesto (Atlanta)

Can you do one load with the top on and one with it off? That way we can get the full effect of the tub illumination from the tub light and still have one load with it off for those who want to see more of the behind the tub mechanics.

Les

Oh. Can we have a few shots of the timer like you did on the Wizard DVD? Thanks. :)

51 General Electric

Or we could always go with the 51 General Electric instead of the Dishwashers....sorry couldn't resist being a smart@$$. I think it is a good idea on doing the dishwasher DVD later as you can then include the "new" KitchenAid. As far as the loads to wash ...I would like to see a load of colors and a load of whites. I love to see clothes dive down to the bottom and reappear at the top. Slosh around freely like they are supposed to in an Automatic!

51 GE

So is this washer like the one on today's (11/9) POD? If so, I can certainly go along with a DVD on that and certainly willing to wait for DW DVD is more machines would be included on it.

Post# 48932 , Reply# 63   11/9/2004 at 17:34 (7,104 days old) by jasonl (Cookeville, TN)

I always wondered if there's software that will do "picture in picture" so you have the timer in a small window in the corner of the screen while you have the action in the main screen.

Post# 48953 , Reply# 64   11/9/2004 at 20:39 (7,104 days old) by westytoploader ()

That's a great idea Les. Don't get me wrong; it's cool with the top off, but I've never seen pictures or videos of a GE AW5 in action with the top on and would really like to see the perspective.

If every cycle was with the top on, that wouldn't bother me either. What does everybody else think?

Top on vs. Top off

Austin asked: "If every cycle was with the top on, that wouldn't bother me either. What does everybody else think?"

Like the first one, I'm hoping that new DVD features two different cycles. My vote would be: one cycle with the top off and one cycle with the top on.

Just my $0.02.

I can film it however you guys like, but I don't think you all realize how little the opening is in the early GE. It was one of the smallest openings of any machines ever made. I can film it this way, but you wont see very much, it would probably be better to film two wash loads with the top off looking down into the tub and then have a short third program filmed of a few minutes with the top on. The light is only a 25watt bulb and probably won't be bright enough to be seen on camera properly, I will experiment though.

In my opinion, it makes perfect sense to just leave the top off. Make it easy on yourself, and let all the action inside the machine show!

Robert,

Perhaps you could make a few pictures before the final decision? I would prefer to see at least one cycle with the top on even if it's a small opening. That's what one would normally see.

They say that a pic is worth a 1,000 words

Louis took the words right out of my keyboard when he said: "Perhaps you could make a few pictures before the final decision? I would prefer to see at least one cycle with the top on even if it's a small opening. That's what one would normally see." Great minds think alike!

I have to disagree- if there is little or no action, I prefer to let Robert be the judge as to how many cycles with the top off. If I'm going to be looking at little or no action on the DVD, I prefer Robert's idea of just a few minutes with the top on.
