If I remember correctly it turns the electronic temp control (ETC) on/off. |

About the machine's age - the model number from the text of the ad is 110.82994110.
Unlike some older Kenmore model numbers, the 82 to the right of decimal does not indicate the year, it indicates the decade (8) but the 2 means 27-inch or full-size cabinet. 24-inch models had a 1 in that position. The next digit, the first 9, indicates the year. So, decade of the 80s, ninth year. The 10 at the end of the model number indicates that this model was the first revision from the original. This model was probably available into 1990, or possibly even longer. Most of the other 1988-1989 models hung around in one form or another until the re-vamp in 1992. There were later versions of this machine, and it seemed almost customary for electronic models to get a lot of revisions as compared to their electro-mechanical controlled counterparts. Did later models have that chrome tape around the top? Gordon |

I purchased one of these, and the companion gas dryer, in about 1991/1992; so it could have been the next generation/revision of the electronic model. I can only speak from my personal experience, but my washer was a total P.O.S. It came with a bumper-to-bumper 3 year warranty (darned good thing it did), and just as soon as that warranty ran out it (and the dryer) were replaced with a pair of Maytags.
