Hello,

I am looking for a knob for a lady kenmore dryer sears it appears to be a portable. It is small and all the controls are located on a front panel. It works great but the knob that turns and the plate that shows the timer setting is missing. The model number is 110.78890100. I tried to look it up on sears direct and it says the part number is 688816. Not sure if this is correct. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Greetings and welcome!

Can you post a photo of the machine (control panel) you are talking about?   If so that would help.

Kevin

As far as finding a new knob....

At least from a retail source, looks like you're going to find very slim pickings. This part does indeed show as NLA with Sears, and other parts sources online.

I checked my parts distributor, which has a nationwide network of dealers who want to clear-out slow moving stock, and this does not show on any lists. I Googled the part number, and nobody shows any in stock. Not on eBay either.

Problem here is that this is a 1978 model, and the portables were not high volume units, not compared to the multi-millions of full-size Kenmore dryers that used the same knob for a decade. Making matters worse, I think the timers and thus the knobs were different for the 120V units vs. the 208/240V models.

Our network would probably be the most likely to have this. The early 1980s models (1980, 1983, 1986) MIGHT work - the knobs/dials will be different colors but may line up such that the machine can be operated.

I have to say I nearly spat my tea out at the title of this post! "Looking for a Knob" would usually be confined to the seedier realms of the internet dating scene!

However, I do find the Kenmore portable range fascinating and adorable. I love the Kenmore portable washers.....well, in fact any apartment sized washers you had in the US. As you are probably aware, one such washer made it to the UK in the 80's with the name Servis. I had the brochure when I was a child and remember trying to convince my Mum she could have a T/L automatic that would fit under a work top!

Didn't even consider the implication....

Very Funny. It was an interesting choice of words, that was not intentional. I was trying to hurry before my son came and took over my computer. He's one and loves to type. It is the cutest dryer and like I said earlier works well to my surprise. It was given to me and everyone said to junk it, but i decided to use it until i can afford to buy the matching dryer for my washer. I hope I can find the knob.

Good luck. I spent all day searching and phoning for a 1995 GE oven temp dial. There has to be one SOMEwhere, just not any parts retailers.

Are cool machines. Once and a while they do show up on CL or Ebay if you find one you might want to grab it for a parts donor. It would not even matter if the timer was broke as all you need is a knob.

Do you have a pic of what the oven knob looks like?  I have about 3 boxes full of range knobs.
