Every now and then, for all of us, everything comes together, and it often happens rapidly--boom boom boom boom, and it's like, WOW. Life is amazing!
I had the hugely popular Underwear channel on, and before tuning in, in the corner of my eye, I noticed that the icon for Ephemera had changed. Hmmmmm, I wondered, what has Himself got up now. And Behold ~ it was the 1966 Whirlpool Mark XII Manual. What a treat. Thank You, Robert. The first thing I read was about the Super Wash which was recommended, you may have guessed, for Diapers. The Super Wash is almost a double wash cycle requiring a double dose of detergent, high water level and hot water, giving a 6 minute wash, 2-two minute soaks, a partial drain "to remove solid soil" "poops," ( just begging for one of Jon's Filter Pan tests), and a refill of hot water with a 14 minute wash. It gets better. The third speed, which works in two cycles or by pressing LO AGITATE (last button) in any cycle, is recommended for--and I'm not making this up--"Quilted Robes, Boned Girdles, and Filmy Lingerie." The boned girdle really tickled me. A few years ago, I had arranged with the Hans's I, II, & III, to restore a Doeskin Mark X11, but they never got the bleach/ fabric softener dispenser bevel replaced, other stuff happened, and I let it go. The Ephemera Doctrine says that dispenser bevel a simple snap off and on plastic item which John has in his soon-to-be Museum. He said that I could have it. Thank You, John. Actually I had forgotten the name of the Hans's place, but when Greg asked me about my dealings with them a few weeks ago, Hans popped down in the all-knowing Apple email server. Mark XII was still there at Appliances Unlimited for the original price quoted 3 years ago, the bevel now moot. Thank You, Greg. Mark is coming home some time tomorrow. I hope to have some items shipped in from the Super Forum's Underwear Channel to test the Super Wash Cycle. Stay tuned. I feel lucky that we all have each other in our grand washer, et-cetera, club, the et cetera growing wider every day, (chuckle). |

Yes, it is, according to John, the very rare Doeskin.
Paul said you guys saw it and that it was really beautiful. Eugene, I love fancy-pants, so funny, and the close-ups, I hope will satisfy. Oh, Gregory, this one's on you, old friend. Had you not alerted me, this would still be sitting in the shop. So a thousand thanks. The Appliance Unlimited Website is not up to date. It shows a mint set of LK Keyboards in gold; they're both gone. He had to "go back and check, and get back to {me}", and then he forgot to call. LOL Thank you, Gentlemen. More later. Mark is still at the grooming salon. |

The requirements here in the kitchen are best served by a machine on wheels in, and when I found out that the Mark 12 had a portable wheel assembly, I could hardly believe my good luck, until Hans informed me that it was inoperative, and worse later, that he was unable to find a replacement. Then one day in a long and fun email train with Hans III, his son, it turned out they were able to fix the portability, leaving only the dispenser to replace. I really thought this piece was a "fancy-pants" complicated thing that I'd need special tools, and skills to fix myself, so I delayed the purchase.
Then for a few years, I was unable even to consider acquisitions or restorations, and just let it go. Suddenly, the great Launderess of Manhattan made her gold WP Convertible available. Our shipper, Jackie, picked it up a few weeks ago, but her unique circuitous routes haven't found their way toward Buffalo. Next, in steps Greg to ask me about my dealings with Appliances Unlimited, and made me realize that the dream machine was still a possibility. With Jackie finally on her way up from Albany today, a stop in Queensbury is, for her, just lunch, LOL. So barring an Alien Visitation or Abduction over Lake Erie, today--Oh No, the anal probe!-- a long, long awaited goal will be achieved. You never know the movement of whose hand will spur on a major event; in this case, it was Greg's. There is another machine on the truck from another well-known former Manhattanite, but I don't want to overload the circuits right now. As Jack Nicolson. famously said: "[ I ] can't handle the truth." |

OOH! The suspense is too much!! Can't wait to see Mark in the new surroundings!
It really is a cool machine - sorry about the drool in the tub from the times I ogled it at Hansen's. I just loved the way the wheels would drop down when the lever in the back was pulled. Very clever engineering. I'll be keeping watch... |

Sometimes I just can't believe life. Here, I was all set for a big date with Mark 12, wheeled him right into the kitchen, shocked at his sheer size with wheels up, and how much he resembled his older sister, the Lady K 63, having learned all her tricks and more, plumbed him right in, awed by the power of the new pump Hans installed and the frightening force of the Classic Surgilator with all the new muscles powering it in full evidence.
BUT THEN, I went into the garage to enjoy my first real Suds Return in the Maytag 806S and I fell madly in love, so to speak. So eager and not bothering to connect the supply hoses, I used the Gilmore Auto-fill and a soup kettle to satisfy the Suds hose, and the high water pressure COULD NOT KEEP UP with the 806 pump. Entranced, I called Ross to thank him, he was having dinner out with Roger, and I forgot to ask if this Tag is souped up with the fast pulley. |

The variety of washer gymnastic the 806S can perform is simply dazzling. The rinsing on the Permanent Press cycle turned my eyes to saucers. For Bob Appnut who likes a long wash: If you select the Suds Return Cycle and leave it there, the machine will wash forever. An Infinite Wash. Unbelievable.
Never appreciated why people waxed ecstatic and drank the Maytag Kool-Aid. Not I get it. |

Paul, sorry I didn't respond when, if fact you were so on my mind, after a series of Classic Turquoisedude Moments.** In fact, the first few hours on Friday night created a total cluster-fudge.
1. Not yet in the iphone habit, so excited, and racing with adrenaline when Jackie showed up in a Penske Semi with a trailer attached toting a new red car hoisted atop, LTC Paul here to assist, Jackie's Dog Cucucachoo, a 14 year old Border Collie, I never even thought to take pix. Her yellow rig all lit up with the red car atop the trailer looked like a Great Lake vessel floating by. 2. The Suds Return would not work. 3. Mark flooded the kitchen 3 times. 4. Scratching an itch, I clicked the wrong side of the mouse and lost 45 miutes of edited work, a comic story to make up for the unshot photos. TWICE I did this. As my friend's old ethnic grandfather used to say, "Oh welllll ..... what da hell ya gunna do.?! ** Which we all have, but you always so generously confess! |

OOOH!! I was so glad to see the bleach and fabric softener dispensers were located and installed!!
You'd have to go a long way to beat me at my highly honed 'skills' at over-complicating things, though... LOL I must email you about the shipper - I have something to get from the DC area to my freight drop in Vermont... |

Look, I thought I was in a time loop, or a deja-vu experience, or simply seeing things, or that I had daydreamed and lost time.
The Mark 12 partial drained and filled FIVE OR SIX times--I lost count--testing the Wash 'N Wear Cycle. Greenly, I used the lowest water level. I counted 3 partials and refills, and after the third refill, it agitated. I thought it was over and done, but lowering the lid I saw that we were only half way there!!!. Then it did 2 or 3 more drains, another agitation, and then, finally, a complete fast speed drain; all partials were done at low speed. Fascinating. I'm sure I the EPA board at the White House lit up like a Christmas Tree, and a drone is in the way. I'll try it again, but not till the coast is clear. If you don't hear from me again....... Well, you know what happened. Ya talk about a cooldown: looks like Mark wrote the book on that one. |

My sentiments exactly, but he stopped. I put a wider drain hose on his discharge port to channel his intense gush.
Glen, yes, thanks, I had heard of multiples, but never dreamed of SIX, with agitations after numbers 3 & 6. And if you select Super Wash 'N Wear, that's about five thousand gallons of water. Remember, I used LO water level. At some point, I'd like to get one of Jon's meters to find out the extent of Mark's gluttony. |

Aghast at the 806 as an acolyte, watching what it did on Permanetn Press with Small water level selected--
1~ 45 second spin drain which on Small throws all nine gallons of water 2~ Instant refill, no pause, water shooting in before tub stops 3~Immediate drain, followed by another another refill 4~ Agitation-- so impressed by the spin drain and instant refill without pausing, BUT, the 806 does only half of what the Mark 12 does. They are so close, without any pausing the way other performers often do. Love the quick follow through, but there is no contest. Mark 12 doubles the performance of the 806 in the cool-down test. Mark's control Panel is enormous: high, wide, imposing, a Titan. |

At first, the Mayt (Mate) seemed incredible they way it threw all the suds water before adding cold on the PP, but then after downloading the 806 Ephemera, it was clear that the PP cycle requires Normal or Large on the level selector, in which case all of the water would not be thrown.
Alas, the doctrine was for an 806, alone, not an 806 S (suds). Got to wondering if the the Infinite Wash which happens after the suds was a timer malfunction, or a case of Mayt being so smart, since, should the timer did indeed proceed to Pre-wash, then all of the carefully saved suds water would be pumped away after only four minutes. Maybe, I could find out from Roger; he has a Mayt, too. Any other Maytagarians out there know for sure? |
