The Story....

danemodsandy's profile picture
....Rings true - this happened a lot back in the day. Whether it's actually true in this particular instance or not is anyone's guess, of course. You'd really have to see the dishwasher itself to make that call.

But true or not, that is one rare dishwasher. You don't see many Customs, and this is the first time I've ever even seen a photo of a 15-series, outside of the 1965 KitchenAid brochure.

it's been used to me, where's the money shot? but what do I know. I do know I have never seen a Custom of this vintage... that is incredibly rare, and it should NOT be sacrificed to save a very common KDS-15 Superba imo!!! just .02$ from a KA fanatic.

where's a "good" money shot - that is so blurry as to show little... love this machine, and wish I could save her, I just love BOL underdogs.

15-series Superbas are not as common as all that, LOL! I keep looking for a parts machine to get the control panel and handle * off of, and keep coming up empty. These are very old machines by now - almost 50 years old - and the crusher has claimed far too many of them.

* And while I'm pipe-dreaming here, stainless front panels would be nice too.

KDC-15

toploader55's profile picture
We had friends that had that exact machine.

The upper rack is that of a Regency Series. That upper rack holds quite a bit.

None the less, a beauty of a BOL machine.

I could easily believe mechanically it was never used, but the front of the machine after all these years being wiped down and "scrubbed" will make the machine look it's age.

Like the KDS-55 that I have. It was used as a Microwave stand and Filing Cabinet to store Office Supplies. And top it off, it was in a Heavy Smoker's house.

The story with mine was it was only used 3 times it's life.

Are you looking...

firedome's profile picture
for a KDS-15 in SS Sandy? That's exactly what my folks bought in '65... Mom quickly hated it because with 3 grubby kids it always had messy looking fingerprints all over it. She got an TOL GE in Avocado when we moved to NC in '68. Seems we do see Superba 15s once in a while here in the East, more populated area and survival must have been helped some due to robust construction.

That was what we had in our new house. That is the original control panel. Later in the run, it was replaced by some sort of semi-brassy metalic, ugly thing. Sometime in the 90s, I upgraded it to an Imperial for mom so she would have the rinse and hold feature and a nicer looking control panel.

What I am really looking for most of all is a different control panel and door handle for my KDS-55. There were at least two different control panels for the 15-series Superbas. When they were introduced, the control panel was described in the brochure as "Antique Gold" (it's actually sort of pink) and that is the one I want. Later, the panel was changed to a woodgrain insert, and that is the one I have; it's just like the one in Eddie's photo above. I think the woodgrain panel is later than the Antique Gold one; woodgrain everything started getting very popular around '67, and I think Hobart was just freshening the design a bit. Handles matched the control panel in each case.

Here's a brochure shot of the panel I want. Finding a stainless front would also be great; my understanding from a previous discussion here on AW is that although it was not a catalogued option on convertible/portable machines, you could get it on one if you knew to ask for it.

My dream machine.

That KDS-15 is my dream machine. Around here I have never seen anything earlier that a 17 series. I still hope to find a decent one of these someday.

This has been listed before. Glad the folks in Marshall haven't put it out for the crusher yet. It's been atg least 6 months if not longer.
