Didn't someone in this group recently acquire a matched pair like this recently?

That would be me. :) The dryer is a 1970 model and that unique panel was only produced for one year.  These were very good dryers.  I have the gas version of the dryer and love it!

To quote in our latest P.O.D. (12/28/14) a Kenmore W&D set:

"Soft Heat starts out full, tapers off as less heat for drying is needed"

Wonder if my K-M dryer of this vintage, w/ "Soft Heat", still does...

did you post pics of your set(I'd be interested in seeing them, if they're here in the aw.org area).
I like the panel - reminds of my shortwave listening days in the early 60's.

"THIS Vintage"?????

Oh, no!!!! --A correction needed:

I meant: 'from the 1990's-to-early-2000's vintage K-M dryer' w/ Soft Heat!

Soft Heat for Kenmore dryers from 1986 onward is simply shifting whatever you have the heat selected for to low heat the last few minutes of the drying cycle.,  I.E. high to low or medium to low.  No gradual tapering off like the true original Soft Heat.

That control panel was cast metal and was very heavy; probably the only one which would not be damaged if you grabbed hold of it to move the dryer
