£179 in today's money is £2,755.06 or €3292.63 or US$4519.12 Miele prices were pretty steep then too :D But what's amazing is how pricy that twin tub is in today's terms ! £1,292.88 / US$2120.71/ €1545.15 CLICK HERE TO GO TO mrx's LINK |

Steve
I think the thread you referred to is the one below. You could also try entering "Swanmaid" into the searchalator as there are a few threads about it. Not sure when it was introduced here it was definitely on sale in 1960. It continued right through the 1960s which some small modifications. There was another Swanmaid model in the 1970s but do not know the origin of that one, it was definitely not Kitchenaid. Which (our version of CR) tested a Kitchenaid Surperba in around 1970 or so, so they must have been on sale here (possibly limited numbers) at that time. Al CLICK HERE TO GO TO vacbear58's LINK |

Great report Paul, just goes to show what you can find with a lot of patience and searching....The Acme..hhmmm, thinking Stokvis, Castorama or Gorenje group?...
Lee and Pete, the Sinkamatic, I think thats the one that you could use it with the impellor shown as a washing machine, (think Hoover twinny) and a dishwasher (drainer in the sink with dishes in, water swirling around) and a flexi drive for use with attachments such as a whisk/mixer - interesting concept, not sure how practical is would have been!! And the Frigidaire Jetamatic Jetcone top loader with the heater and fast spin. The only one of the above I used at the time was the Bendix Tumble Dryer badged as a "Fisholow" very fast dryer with high/low and air fluff setting!!! |

I have seen a similar thing, in the early 80s I lived in a flat in Fulham, the landlady next door had one she said she bought it at the ideal home exhibition, hers had the single pulsator at the back but had a rack on runners that allowed you to pull it up to load it, this is the first time I have seen anything like it.
These machines to me are all great and interesting I like em all, so have them delivered! :-) Nice to know Paul you are both settling in and finding time to enjoy yourselves with more leisurely pursuits Thanks for posting this Gary |
