We had this problem recently and it was a few toothpicks and bread bad wire ties had gotten past the drain entry point. I fixed it by doing the same thing you did to your machine. So that's not it. How old is your machine? Model number? |

I would keep running it, the noise will either go away or get worse, it is fairly likely that the main pump seal is starting to fail the tiny amount of water that got past the seal has started to ruin the main motors bearings.
If this is the case it will get louder and eventually the main motor will refuse to run at all. If you like the DW I would fix it, as it is less expensive and less wasteful than buying a new DW every 5-10 years, appliances that get a lot of use do require repairs from time to time. There is NO safety hazard in continuing to use the DW, this type of problem would be very unlikely to cause a fire. |

If the impeller is damaged it needs to be replaced and in most cases the impeller and seal assembly is not available separately. The best coerce of action is to replace the main motor assembly which includes the seal and impeller.
If the DW has had nearly 8 years of daily use this is the best way to go. |
