My nephew broke my Riccar light weight vacuum and I am spent out this month.New house and starting a business,ETC.

I found this new Singer vacuum in the box for 20 buck's.I like these direct air Vacuums and I hate bag-less vacuums and I mean

hate them bad.I have never had a Singer Vacuum but this looks to be a late 80s or early 90s I just don't anything about these at

all.I don't really care for the Vacuum site folks in there can be kinda hateful if you don't own 1000s Vacuums or say anything like me

not liking bag-less vacuums. Here is a pic of it ...

You should be very happy with this one.  They are a little screechy, but good vacuums.

And for $20 bucks, you hit jackpot.

This is the same vacuum my grandmother has, she bought it in about 1995, it cost around $60 then. It is a Ryobi made machine. Overall its not a terrible vacuum, a bit loud, and its clearly a Hoover Elite knock-off, it even uses Hoover A bags

I remember ads for Singer Vacs in magazines in the 60s. We were Hoover upright and Kenmore, then Eureka canister folks.

I always got that feeling there, have things changed since Robert and Fred are in charge? One of these days I'll have to venture over there and see.

Venture to the other side.
They can get a little pissy sometimes, but there is good information available there. There are some very nice, very knowledgeable collectors and enthusiasts on the vac site.

I was a bi-member until December, since I spend most of my time over here I didn't re-up. We have way better stuff on the Dirty Laundry forum. And Way-Way better controlled tempers.

I have to agree..

The vac site isn't nearly as friendly, reminds me of a bunch of petty high school girls all competing to outdo each other, secretly disliking each other, and looking for people to screech at for daring to disagree with them. Not saying that's every member of the vac site, some are quite friendly and helpful, but the general atmosphere just can't compare to the friendly cooperative nature of this site.

As for the vacuum, I always liked singer vacs. Yes they are noisy, but they do a great job cleaning, I grew up with one in my birth mother's house and my aunt who raised me had one as well, until they upgraded to more expensive vacs, Rainbow for birth mother, Kirby upstairs and Filter Queen downstairs for aunt.) I always thought the singers did just as good a job as their MUCH more expensive replacements, and were so lightweight and easy to use. 20 dollars new in box is a sweet deal, even cheaper than they were new in the 80s, and they were extremely reasonable even then.

For years throughout the 60's and early 70's Kenmore twin fan uprights were rebadged Singer/Ryobi's . Like this one

This is mine, owned since the mid 1980s.  Bought on clearance $85 at the local Wal-Mart.

woodgrain kenmore

I have that exact model tucked away in the back bedroom. It does an amazing job, especially with the 2 speeds, high for carpets, low for rugs.

The only real gripe I've ever had with singer vacuums was the handle height when released from its upright position. Since I am 5 foot 3 inches tall, the standard handle position is a smidge too high, meaning I have to hold my arm in an awkward position, and the lower handle position is a smidge too low, meaning I have to stoop a bit. The perfect height for me is just between the 2. I never had that issue with either eureka or hoover.
