Is this a BD or DD - I'm trying to distinguish by the bottom - so it looks like a BD.

This is a BD machine, you can always tell by the smaller lid. Looks like a 70's model.

Also, besides the size of the lid a definite give away is the lid handle...If it's metal it's BD absolutely. That machine is from the mid 70's.

thanks guys -is there any time when it might be harder to distinguish BD from DD or is it always one of a few different outside features? I'm imagining that sometimes, there are some fine lines, but maybe not with the Whirlpools.

Another way to tell BD from DD

is that the cabinet is wider. 29" VS 27". This is especially noticeable when next to a dryer. If it is a top filter WP made dryer the BD will be the same width. If next to most other dryers it will be wider. For a DD it will match the width of most dryers EXCEPT the top filter WP.

Early direct-drive machines were 24" width.
