70 series or 700's??

I have a pair of 1963 70 series and they DON'T look like that!

These are all utterly gorgeous, hope you get the second set Kevin!

Small pet peeve: why do people advertising dryers almost never bother to note if the dryer is gas or electric? Many homes don't have hookups for both.

Very nice set. Nice to see in that condition and age and still going strong. Kevin, I hope you get them to add to your collection. Would have been nice to see a money shot or two.

Where are the water level and temp controls?  Does the washer just fill to the top, and are water temps dictated by the cycle selected?

Post# 756655 , Reply# 8   5/13/2014 at 00:47 (3,636 days old) by alr2903 (TN)

RP2813,  I believe the electric cord has hid the silver lever/s.  Look at picture 3 from the right in the original ad.  I can not be sure but looks like some print on the left bottom of the panel.  alr2903

These are definitely a 7-series of 1963 vintage. I've always considered them 700s vs. the 70 series that Kevin pictured. Actually there is only one digit different in the washer's model number, and both have a 7 in the series digit, but because the dryer has a full-width door, I've considered these 700s because they're perhaps a tiny bit fancier.

Washer is an alphabet washer with timer set temps according to the cycle letter.

The water level switch is on the left, a slider type just like in the same era Lady Kenmores.

You can see the water level adjustment a little bit better in this picture below of the same model, just under the first letter E of 'kenmore'.

Thanks guys.  I was trying to convince myself that a sliding lever was behind the cord, but just couldn't see it.

Delicate Cycle

I noticed that on the timer dial for the Delicate cycle 'F' there is an arrow that appears to point to the left. Any idea what this is supposed to indicate?

Malcolm

Which agitator can we expect in this model? Bakelite super roto-swirl?

This model has a self cleaning lint filter, that is why there is an orange light above the timer dial that says filtering….it glows orange anytime the washer is washing or rinsing to indicate that the filter is filtering. During the drain the filter then cleans itself……...PAT COFFEY

Between being a matched set, colored instead of white, and then those artistic ovals around the timer dials, WHAT A SIGHT!!!!!
Kind of funny that the "filtering" light glows even if you clogged it beyond repair, or re-hosed right past it, but very cool.

Technically speaking, the "filtering" light is wired in parallel with the agitate wig-wag solenoid. It did not have a separate cam on the timer or any sort of "monitoring circuit." On this particular machine it will also light during "suds-return" even though it's not possible for filtering to take place then!

UPDATE.

revvinkevin's profile picture

This whole ordeal has been a little frustrating because the seller is not very communicative and takes a long time to respond. I have not heard anything from them in 24 hours now. I was hoping to speak to them today so we could finalize a price. Perhaps when I told them I was in Los Angeles they thought it was a joke. Who knows. We'll just have to wait and see what happens the next days.

If this all falls apart, the one good thing I can say is yesterday I booked an impromptu trip and will now be in Minneapolis and Wausau over memorial day weekend! A quick little mini vacation as it were! YAY!

I have pictures of the ironer on here. That isn't my laundry room now; I don't live in that house anymore. I also have a set of Whirlpool Ultimate Care II's now instead of those front loaders. They were left for the ex. I would love to find a vintage set of Maytags somewhere close to replace them with. Those DD's sound awful when they run.

OK.... UPDATE #2 - - - I RELEASE YOU!

revvinkevin's profile picture

The seller has not responded to my e-mails, phone calls or texts for nearly two days now (since I said I was in LA) and it's frustrating.   While this set would be really great to have, it is NOT a "dream set" for me.    So.... at this point I am going to walk away, I'm done.

If any of you out there in washer land have any interest in this beautiful 1963 turqwaaz Kenmore set, PLEASE GO FOT IT!

IF YOU ARE interested, AW-message or e-mail me and I can give you the sellers phone number.

FYI they are located in Plover, WI, 45 miles south of Wausau.   The owners bought the house to flip it and has owned it 6 months.   The washer & dryer came with the house.   He said they did use them once and they work fine.   They sold the house and escrow closes June 8th, that's why they need to be gone before that date.

~    ~    ~    ~    ~    ~    ~    ~    ~    ~    ~    ~

On the bright side,  I will still be in Minneapolis and Wausau for my "mini vacation getaway" over Memorial Day weekend and I am REALLY looking forward to it!   Laughing

Kevin

There is some minor wear to the finish on the baffles inside the dryer drum, but not too bad IMO.  The enamel inside the tub is in great condition too.

I hope to document and photograph the trip to Cleveland as much as possible. This website has great members, and has restored my faith in humanity. Lol. Seriously it's pretty awesome that polkanut and combo52 have agreed to pick up, hold, and deliver to me. It really proves that there are still good people out there.

Looking forward to getting these units in!

Wasn't this the last year for the dryers with the perforated drum back?

No. The solid-bulkhead "officially" appeared on 1967 models. However, given the fact that Sears-Kenmore often continued models several years beyond their "debut" it is possible to find both 1965 and 1966 panels with the solid bulkhead out there (and in shaded Avocado too!!! shudder)

I'll take pics tomorrow when it's light out.  Timmy tired.  Many thanks to Revvinkevin's creative rearrangement so my vehicle doesn't need to sit outside!

No picture updates from me, however Tim may be able to post a few.

I can tell you both drain hoses are missing. Otherwise they look to be a rather nice condition inside and out.

Sorry for the delay in posting this but my 'puter was in the hospital from Monday until today.  John LeFever and his partner Smitty picked up the Kenmores Tuesday afternoon.  They're either in transport and should be arriving in Cleveland soon.

It was wonderful meeting them both, and our time together was all too brief.  John is a walking encyclopedia of appliance knowledge, and a national treasure for sure.

They arrived.

It truly was a pleasure meeting john and smitty. John is truly the walking encyclopedia of appliances. Here is a photo after placing them in my store window.

They will sit there for a while until I can start the restoration process.

Picture from left to right: john, me (Eugene), and smitty.

Eugene, CONGRATS on getting this beautiful set!

I wasn't there to help haul them up and out of the basement, but I was at Tim's house to unload them from the truck and into the garage.

How VERY COOL they are on display in a storefront window, that is really awesome to see!! But I have to say that Samsung(?) FL washer in the middle looks REALLY out of place among those other beautiful vintage appliances!

Best of luck with them Eugene and keep us in the loop on the restoration.

Kevin

The samsung!

Sold this morning! I have to let people know that I sell some somewhat (ahem) modern appliances. Funny thing is the vintage kenmore stove sold as well. The kenmores have been getting a bit of attention, but are Not for sale.

Unless someone is crazy enought to make a 5 figure+ offer, they will be brought back up to "like new" status, and will be used regularly at my home.

I hope to fill up my window with all vintage appliances and snap a picture for you guys to see. Soon.

The window display is beautiful.  I'm on the hunt locally for an older gas stove w/ pilot lights for in the basement.  It would be nice in case of a power failure to have a stove that doesn't require electricity to use the oven.

We Made Home Safely Last Night

It was so good meeting Tim and his wife, they are really lovely folks.

It was also really fun meeting Eugene, this guy is really on the ball with his appliance business. He and my friend Bob and I worked on helping Bob clean out his shop that he is leaving. Eugene bought a bunch of appliance parts from Bob that he will be putting on Ebay, including a lot of vintage MT washer-dryer timer dials, knobs, push-button switches, etc.

I will look forward to the next time that I get out to Cleveland.
