Washer from childhood

We had the same washer growing up! This brings back many memories! I loved watching the MagicMix filter do it's thing! We had a two family home so this machine did laundry for 10 people most of it's life; it was a true work horse. When it went my mom bought a GE Programmed large capacity filter-flo.

That is my mom's washer!

We got it soon after moving into the new house. Thing was a work horse but the transmission finally gave out sometime in the 1980's.

The top looks pretty well used-the lint filter looks sort of well used.and the homemade shipping braces!Least they are trying!

60's Whirlpool

Hope you get them, and that there's no drama with the seller! Really great machine, and very minimalist styling. The control box is very reminiscent of Frigidaire's control tower. Good luck and keep us posted!

Congratulations, I really like the control "pod" and that filter. Is this a somewhat rare less than 29" model? Early 60s?

Keep the pictures coming----

Congrats are a little premature as I am only starting the process.

But.... from the photos it does LOOK like its a 24" model.   And while I won't assume it's never been used, it does look like it's either low use or is simply in-better-condition-than-you'd-expect-from-a-Pittsburgh-basement.... type of thing.

I have contacted a couple "local" AW members and asked if they can look at it for me.

I will let you know more when I know more.

Wow, that is a neat find.  A high featured 24" model to boot.  Can't imagine many of these were made then, let alone survived.  And I love that it's a Whirlpool vs. a Kenmore, too.  Hopefully things work out for ya Kevin.

Thanks so much Ben! (Mark, Al and Christina too!)

Honestly I don't know what the hell I'm thinking, going for a machine that's across the country like this!

This is a neat little washer, especially being it's a 24" machine, but I would normally never go after anything this far away!

It guess I need to go see my doctor because the Meds are not working anymore!    Cool

My grandmother had a similar one from 1966 or so. Hers did not have the water level selector though. I always loved the partial console design, and that Magic Mix filter is my favorite. I wish they had been on Kenmores too.

These were fun washers, they had a 16 gallon water capacity and WP rated then at an 8# load capacity. Here in the DC area we saw a lot of these and I am sure they sold lots of them in the NY city area as well.

I always liked rebuilding these simpler WP BD washers, even though they were the same mechanically as all other BD machines of the same time period, there was not all the SC filter system, dispenser parts and complicated timer and controls to deal with, just good honest washing.

Kevin let me know if I can help PU this machine and bring it back to my area for shipment, John.

Thank you John, I appreciate it!

I will know more about it next week.

Update.......

revvinkevin's profile picture

Here we go again, another seller not responding to messages.   I did not contact them this time however, Xraytech, who lives locally did.   He said the seller did respond initially, but then stopped.

So even though I would love to have this little 24" WP washer, I've thrown in the towel on this one too.   Cry
