just got this little puppy in.....its a Whirlpool D-2000 24" model.....two speed....a few cycles and options......spin drain of course, with sprays for each spin....very clean being from July 1985.....oddly enough has good turnover for not having a DualAction agitator.....also has the filter in the agitator...suprisingly whisper quiet.....only needed a pump!......people will throw out anything!....now to find it a good home....

What a cool little machine.  I've always wanted to play with one of these early DD machines.  I'm sure you'll find a good home for it.

sorry Malcolm...seen one, seen them all.....

the spin drain is probably the only special thing about it...

amazing though, granted these are around a 2.5/2.7 cu ft tub, but that tranny and spin clutches held up all these years, and still going....the lady claimed this was the first time it broke down, have to admit, she kept it clean....

just thinking, this machine is almost 30 years old...

That has the 5 vane agitator right?

Five-Vane?

mrb627's profile picture
Unfortunately, no. Just a four-vane here. I don't know that the five-vane was offered in the 24" models, but perhaps only the 27" machines.

yeah, this is only a four vane....and no raised skirt, right to the bottom of the basket.....

the five vanes usually go with the Dual Action, with a raised skirt and slimmer vanes...of at least the ones I have seen...

I didn't know the 5 vane came in dual action form. I've only seen them with the top half like the one on your machine. But I do now see just 4 vanes on yours.

Remember when the year 2000 was a long time away? UGH!

Nice DD machine. They did not have a step-down agitation. Continuous hi-speed, right?
How's the Permanent Press cycle work? It would be interesting to see a WPL Permanent Press cycle without a neutral drain.
This would be a fun washer!!

That machine is a landlords dream!  Fits anywhere and easy to fix.  Nice find.   Funny, I've never seen a whirlpool with a clothes guard?  Isn't it a little overkill? I guess since it does a spin drain, theoretically it's necessary, but is the final spin really that high?

Clothes guard likely is protection against overloading.

As I recall, Perm Press on the non-neutral-drain units did a spin-drain until the water level switch reset, which was pretty much all the water out, then refill and agitation for the cool down.

These were good washers and it goes to show that sometimes the early models actually have less problems and as I have predicted for a long time in the future we are going to see many of today's appliances going strong in 20-30 years.

This DD washer was probably right on the change over period to neutral drain models, we saw several WP DD machines like this one that had the timer with the extra pause for the ND but actually still had the spin drain transmission.

Martin what week of the year was this washer built and does it have the pauses for ND in the timer?

THe control panel is the spittin image

to mom's 84 era WP. That was a fantastic machine, small tub but it NEVER I mean NEVER required even a belt. Only one time did the recirculation line get clogged with lint did we have someone out. It gave 17 years service using hard well water, washing whatever me and dad tossed in from our factory days plus piles of sawdust and hay (we farmed on the side) and that machine took it all.

What a wonderful machine it truly was. Wish they brought it with them to Florida.

That was my very first new washer I bought for my mobile home in 1986. Mine had a neutral drain and didn't have the tub guard though. I remember I paid $350 for the washer and $300 for the matching electric dryer. They worked very well for many years and were still going strong when I sold the place.
