Hi:

I'm looking for a piece to complete my Corning Ware Broil 'n Serve platter. I have the platter, and I have the serving cradle, but I have not been able to find the broiling rack that goes inside the platter for broiling.

Does anyone have a spare of this item they'd be willing to sell? I'm not actually ever going to use it, but I like my goodies complete.

I am unsure whether this item is aluminum or stainless; I've only seen it in photos. Any unbent condition should be okay; I can polish it.

A photo from the 1967 full-line catalog is below - I'm only looking for the rack inside the platter, not the platter nor the serving cradle. Got 'em.

Thanks!

I hope the fellow at CorningWare411 doesn't mind, but I've taken this one picture from his collection. I think this is similar to what you're looking for. This is listed as a P-19-B with optional rack. Your ad says P-29, so I guess it's not identical--but those Corning Ware codes can be tricky.

He doesn't have much information on it, but he might respond to an inquiry.

I know it's not aluminum. It's probably stainless steel. Mine's been through the dw with no loss of gloss.

Looking at the photo John posted, it appears that the rack could indeed be stainless, or perhaps really good chrome-plate.

John: The P-29 designation in the photo I posted is for a set that included an open roasting pan with rack in addition to the Broil 'n Serve platter. The Broil 'n Serve on its own was indeed P-19-B. I cropped the open roaster out of the photo because it wasn't relevant to my question.

I'm also finding that the Broil 'n Serve was offered with or without the rack at various points in its history. In addition, it was available with two different serving cradles - the round-handled one shown in the photo I posted, and another version with flat, rectangular-profile handles. The rectangular-profile handles are on the serving cradle I own.

At any rate, if anyone ever turns up a rack all by its lonesome, I'd be very interested.

not to get your hopes up but, i did see a bunch of corningware at this one second handstore that i go to occassionally, the last time i went. i will try to go by there today and see if i see anything like that.
i've gotten acquainted pretty good with the lady there. i'll see if she will sell me just that one insert (if i find it there).

after i've gone there, i'll post back & let you know what i find.
also, i think i seen some of the plastic lids you were looking for at one time. are you still wanting the plastic lids??

send me an email, a.s.a.p and let me know so that i can go and see if they are still there.
give me measurements of the lids.

i get alerts on my phone when i get emails. so send me an email soon so that i can check it out for you, before someone else buys these things.

UPDATE:

The rack may have surfaced - Kevin vintagekitchen thinks he has one and will be in touch when he finds it in his stash.

Christina - I'm sorry I didn't check back sooner! I wasn't ignoring you. The lid I'm looking for is pretty rare - it's the plastic lid for the loaf pan. It's rectangular, not square like most other Corning lids. Can't imagine your seller has one of them running around loose, but I'd be very tickled if they did. A photo is below:

now that i see what it looks like and know that it is the rectangle plastic lid for a loaf pan, i know what to look for.

but i think you're right, i remember seeing the square plastic lids.

i will still check and see if there is the loaf pan there and if it has the plastic lid on it or for it. and if so, i will see if she will just sell that too me. ya never know, all we can do is ask. and the worst she can say is "no" to just the lid and want to sell me the pan with the lid??

i will check it out for you sandy & we'll see what happens. i'll get back to you & let you know if i find the plastic lid for you.

keep your fingers crossed.....

;o)

Please don't think that's bad news.
