Okay Guys,

So is "Heating Drying" now a victim of the Econazis? I'm in the process of looking for a new dishwasher for a mountain place, and I'm discovering that you really have to read the fine print. Many lower end dishwashers don't seem to have heated dry.

(BTW, any suggestions on a decent, mid range dishwasher that actually has it?)

With a DW with filter, often, there is no exposed heating element any longer. The heater is than integrated in the pump or designed as an special flow-by heating system, thus no heated dry is possible.
Some cheap models with plastic tank don't simply add it.
If it has to have heated dry than one of the new Maytags with 4-blade chopper should suit you perfectly.
