Thank You, for posting Phil!  Interesting  that the GE design dept.  continued on with the appearance, design of the "activator" for quite some time.  I guess the design was  Trademarked even back then?

Ditto!  This unusual piece would be fun to make operational again, although it wouldn't be EASY.

air2903 - I just thought it was unusual, having never seen one in my searches. I don't know what it would take to get it working, but Ralph or others must have a good idea. I hate to see something that was designed to function, left to be a prop/decoration. But we aren't all born with deep pockets to bring things back from the dead.

GE made a spin-drier! Lots of them, but like Westinghouse, I don't think they resumed production of these after the war. Focus on automatic washers, dryers and the like drew the investment away from spinner washers that never really caught on anyway.

Consumer Reports magazine in 1936 (IIRC) did a report on washers and claimed that the wringer washer was inherently unsafe and inefficient and should be avoided by all buyers except those who could afford nothing else. This probably meant little to many during the Great Depression, especially those in rural areas reading by kerosene lamp or candle.
