Love those

"whale tail" handles on the fridge.

GE Frost Gaurd Ref

This is a rare Hot-Gas-Defrost GE Top Freezer model. This ref would earn a B+ overall.

The Electric range is made by Tappan, these ranges would be about a C+ overall.

HGD and maximum fridge size

ovrphil's profile picture
It's funny, I was wondering if I would come across a HGD after reading Combo52(John L.) comments in
Post# 790639 , Reply# 9 10/26/2014 at 6:32am ...just five days ago. Not that I will ever need to know this, but now that you mentioned HGD ...what was the largest GE fridge using HGD?

Biggest Hot Gas Defrost GE Refs

combo52's profile picture
Hi Phil, I think the one in your link was about the largest, @ about 19 cubic feet that GE built, The TF HGD refs were not made as long and I don't think I ever saw one larger than about 15CF. The other really cool ref with HGD that GE built were the Americana bottom freezer models with the counter-top in the middle.

Ge never made a SXS with HGD, which is really too bad when you consider how many thousands of defrost heaters burn out in GE SXSs every week in this country.

That IS really interesting, that they never made a SXS with HGD.

Americana freezer? If I saw one, I probably didn't realize and certainly didn't know it was/wasn't HGD, but now that you made me aware, that makes them all the better, right? You're currently using one of these Americana refrigerators and /or freezers, aren't you? Is it an HGD Americana freezer? I'd easily enjoy using a GE wall fridge and freezer, but not in a primary kitchen design. I'm curious... how well do these keep foods consistently cold (no warm spots?) and besides parts being scarce(?), any caveats? Sorry, maybe I need to do a search...thanks for any comments and replying here to the maximum HGD fridge size.
