Just found this ad for vintage appliances in the Chicago. Included is a front loader Bendix. They are asking $300 for it. It is located at a Habitat for Humanity.

Those GE ranges are a favorite of mine, too... great mid century modern design at its best! I think they came out in 1957, with a stamped aluminum dash and the "old" clock dial (the pink is an early one like this), a year or two later followed with a glass clock and timer face, then updated to a full glass control panel (like the yellow one, probably a 1960 or 61). I think the following year was about the last of that dash, it had the full glass dash panel but with brown in the glass. I way more often see these in 40" ranges than in these more easily placed (in a modern kitchen) 30" models.

The Bendix reminds me of a sober visit to one of my mom and dad's friend's daughter, who had polio. They put her in an "iron lung". I've never been able to look at these Bendix without thinking of the poor Polio victims. It's good some people never experienced either the lung or having to visit someone in it.

But for the price, that was a great deal. Congrats.

Mark,

I am sorry you're disappointed.  Didn't you buy this from a donation store?  If so, I doubt they knew the condition of it.

condition

Yes I did, I dont think they knew but at the same time they wanted $200 for it.The porcelain on the tub is terrible, the motor and transmission are bad and the soaplid is missing.Disappointed is not a strong enough word.I cant tell you how badly I want a working and intact diving bell bendix, money would be no object.I think if these people dont know its condition they have no business asking that kind of money for it.At best I might be able to use some of the parts to fix my deluxe bendix.
