That 40-incher....

danemodsandy's profile picture
....Is a screaming deal for someone who can handle Coppertone. I find it too difficult to keep sparkling clean; it shows fingermarks worse than stainless.

The companion oven seems to have the lift-off liners that go in the main oven for self-cleaning, greatly easing the job of cleaning the companion oven.

The price is very right, too.

That roper is not worth what they are asking.

150 max. No griddle, single oven, not really desireable as a collector.

Roper

usually when the get a nice piece in, the price is high, but not as much as on Craigslist where a seller would ask at least $1,000...they cut prices on items that are not selling after awhile..and gas stoves seem to sit there the longest

Sandy the 40" coppertone

I can see the side walls look like they are removable, but what about the oven floor portion?  It's a beautiful deep copportone.

I'm not sure if this is the removable-wall version or if something is just not right with the liner on the little oven.

GE always did make a nice Coppertone, if you like Coppertone.

That is a removable lower panel in the companion oven. The secret to keeping coppertone sparkling is that after washing and rinsing it and wiping it dry is to give it a final wipe with some vinegar to kill all tendency of streaks.

I know about the vinegar trick and it does work.

Until the next time someone touches the appliance. I found Coppertone to have the same problem showing fingermarks as stainless, only maybe even more so.

When I left home, I didn't waste much time trying to acquire some of the glamorous Coppertone appliances I had envied other people - my mom was a firm believer in White, so the grass was copperier on the other side of the fence, right? Well, I found a Coppertone range and fridge and prepared to settle into glamorous bliss....

NOT. It was a struggle from first to last to keep the damn things looking sparkling. I rid myself of them at the first opportunity, and have tried to stick to White ever since.

Drool... The GE set for $40 is a steal...   The brushed-stainless cooktop is like the one I remember best from our country house in the Eastern Townships when I was a brat.  And a turquoise oven, well, that just trumps everything... LOL

Thanks for posting these Jerry, I bought the Poppy range this afternoon. I had wanted an Electra-Clean Frigidaire range for the Museum kitchen as well as a good example of Poppy, YAY.

That's a very nice range John!

I'm curious about the clock, it looks like a very early model from the first series of Compact 30 ranges (1962).

The range itself should be a 1975 RBE 533,  a 1973-74 RBE3-533W,  or 1971-72 RBE-533P (the 1969-70 version had a different "lock" knob for the oven door, see the last pictures for the early type).

The 1975 RBE-533 (in which the "E" stands for "Electri-Clean") has the exact same model number as the 1962-1963 RBE-533 (in which the "E" was designating the production years), I'm wondering if the timer was replaced at some point and the replacement timer was ordered for a 1962 range by error!

The two first pictures show the 1975-style RBE-533 clock, the third one shows the clock on my RBE-539N (mine was made in 1969 but it's a 1968 model and it's almost the same as the RBE-533P but with the added Speed Heat and Heat Minder burners).

1968 was the first year for a self-cleaning Compact 30 range and there was just one model available which featured the Speed Heat and Heat Minder burners. In 1969, another self-cleaning model without the SH and HM burners was introduced. Both ranges were produced with minimal changes for a few years.

There was an identical one in State College PA 2 hrs away from us last year, we didn't need another 30"er, but was sorely tempted by that beauty nonetheless!
